Even as a former owner (back in law school), I strongly agree that the Corolla is a major offender. Their drivers have a supreme talent for puttering along aimlessly and completely oblivious to their surroundings.

What's with all the "gently slow down" and "just let them pass" talk in this thread? Pretty sure if you tickle the loud pedal for a couple of seconds you won't need to worry about econobox tailgaters anymore

I'm new to the M3, but in my 5 days of ownership I've been "pulled-up on" by 2 Pontiac G6's in two different states. I passed them at my standard 10 over the speed limit, er, limit. They then accelerated, looked at me and peeled off only to slow down a few miles down the road.

For me, a couple of VW GTI's... It's a nice car, but the two drivers either: a) don't know much about cars, assuming they really thought they could keep up with me; or b) they were just trying to see how close things might be (knowing they weren't as fast, but just wanted to see what the difference was). I was in my car with a buddy the other day, stopped at a light & talking - in no particular hurry. The light turns green, and this GTI takes off like he's at a drag strip with a big bet on the table?!?!?! I didn't even realize he was there, let alone that he would try to "race" me... I just gently accelerated and didn't even acknowledge it was a race - I'd say the GTI driver either: a) was so stupid he actually thinks he won; or b) was insulted that I didn't even take him seriously... Anyone else have such experiences with GTI's?

Oh, and of course, a couple of Audi's - one was a de-badged prior-generation A6 (are you f...ing kidding me - I absolutely killed him...) and another was a new S5 who snuck up on me - I didn't see him until he was already past me going full throttle at high rpm - I was cruising along at about 60 in 7th gear - no way I was going to catch him without risking people's lives, so just I just let him go (same two possibilities as for GTI above, except S5 is obviously much more capable...) I'm actually surprised nobody else on this forum has focussed on Audi's that "annoy" their M3...

One of the things I've noticed and this is coming from an American, is that the highways in America and Europe is very different. The way people drive on the highway here is rediculous...Sometimes I see people driving on the left lane under the speed limit and if I'm really lucky I'll spot cars that will change lanes for NO reason, not passing or anything but they just feel the need to change lanes. In Europe and especially in Germany the majority of the people know that if you are NOT passing another car you need to stay the FUCK in the right lane so you can let other people through. But in the US this is an entirely different story. I see soccer moms and hicks driving on the "passing lane" all the time under the speed limit and I really do try to stay away from generalizations but this is just what I've encountered so far.

Stuff like this really makes me mad

As a current Ford Focus owner I had to laugh at this..... I don't think the US gets the Focus ST version that we have over here in the UK, if you did you'd have to watch out as some of the modified ones are stupidly quick for a front wheel drive hatchback. I fully expect to find that my E93 M3 (arrives on Monday) won't be as quick as the ST (its mildly tuned with a remap to 271bhp and 330ft/lb) in gear although it will sound SOOOO much better

Pickup trucks are the worst offenders around here.

Also, I cannot stand it when I am zipping through traffic and someone decides that they need to follow, and then get pissed off at me for either not going fast enough or because I made it through a gap they didn't. WTF?

Is it really the car or is it the driver? Car or driver aside, there is one solution. Let them go pass and be nice to those idiots. They are gonna have an accident soon anyways. But if they insist on not pissin off, drive off to the nearest mountain road and show them what you are made of. Hit every apex and rub that perfect heel-toe in their faces!

Although it is not all about power, it is indeed a FWD. And they handle like shit. Unless you are schumy, i don't think you have any chance at an M3.

I have not had anyone challenge me since having the M3. I kinda think that people don't know about the car?

This and Highway Patrol/State Troopers seem to be the major cause of traffic jams!

Men driving mini-vans are the bane here (I am a poor Z4M Coupe owner and plan to upgrade in the spring). They seem to have a need to prove that their Dodge Caravan can beat my Z4M. I let them. I think I spread happiness in the world - one person at a time - this way

I nominate E46 325i in the tri-state area, it is so common the driver could be a middle aged mom, young high school kid, and anything in between but all drive like erratic morons.

I had an S2000 w/ Invicta exhaust (sounded terrible, and seriously makes me think twice about putting an exhaust on any car b/c it was so bad) pull up along side me, look at me for 15 sec and floor it until he was tailgating the car in front of him. Then the guy slowed down and did it again. He is lucky that I wasn't in the mood to run him. He wasn't turboed or anything, so I don't know how he thought he was going to take me.

I had a tuned up Mustang (intake, exhaust, and 22" rims) do the same thing on a more open road, and it was too much to handle so I left him a quarter mile behind me

In gear within the speed limit there will be very little between my ST and lardy E93 M3..... from a stand still the M3 will be quite a bit quicker as the ST is difficult to launch without spinning the front wheels too much.

From 30-70mph the ST figures at 4.3sec (the E92 M3 is around 3.9).... if the E93 can match that sort of in gear performance I'll be very pleased.

The E93 isn't that much slower. plus you'll plow with fwd. You can't get the power on early out of a bend... having a fwd is just like being disable compared to an M3.
