Yas Marina Bue Metallic F80 M3 vs Santorini Blue E92 M3

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
While at the Cars and Croissants event hosted by BMW of North America, I had the chance to take some comparison pictures of the F80 M3 in Yas Marina Blue vs my Santorini Blue E92 M3.

I'm still reserving judgement on the Yas Marina Blue, but the photos I've seen thus far haven't done it justice. After seeing the paint in person, it's starting to grow on me. I think the black wheels lend a bit more visual aggression to the car which the somewhat pale YMB really needs.

I have a ton of media to process from today's E30 M3 SIGFest event also held at BMW NA. I'm hoping to get started on those shots tomorrow...

I saw this color in person on iND's M5 and I must say I was very impressed! Would I prefer it over Santorini? I can't pass judgment just yet.

My M4 will most likely be Santorini Blue or Signal Green... The YMB isn't nearly as bad as I thought though.

Santorini Blue blows Cornflower blue out of the water. Even the blue painted handicap logo on ground is a better shade of blue over YMB.

if i didn't know which car was newer, i couldn't even make a guess.

The styling has stalled in terms of "newness" on the new M imo.

The hood is the main thing, the bulge isn't even there.

The interior is sick though.

Too many abrupt edges. Looks choppy with no flow.

the E92 hood is better looking.I like how the front fenders on the E92 are angled backward. Where the F80 the fender vents are angled up. Also that hood line sucks, but everyone knows this already.

why is the new car so much bigger looking ? i don't understand

Those all-black 19inch OEM wheels on F80 are much better than the 2 tone one...

The E92 wins here hands down, but the F80 is still a great looking car. I think with some odds it'd be a closer race.

I like both but prefer the Santorini a little more than the YMB

This thread allows me to come to the following conclusions:

-the e92 m styling is timeless and looks way better than the new gen m3/m4
- santorini blue is a way better color than yas marina (when directly next to each other).

The f80 styling doesn't flow at all compared to the e92. It has evo 10 like styling IMO

I just can't get past the fugly front end of the F80. Santorini owns it in the color department as well.

Thanks guys! I do not feel that the F8X has significantly dated the E9X chassis. I think that the F8X will be eventually be an addition to my E92 and not its replacement. It really is a beautiful car in person, but I still don't know about the Yas Marina Blue. I don't know that it's aggressive enough considering what the F8X is packing under the hood. YMB is certainly a polarizing launch color though! Reminds me of when the LSB E46s first came out.

Your e92M looks SO MUCH better than the F80.
The F80 trunk and rear bumper is way too bulky and doesnt flow with the body!!!
The F80 front nose is too sharp reminds me inverted cliff LOL
guess time to move on to Pcar for me......
