LF: Advice; order problem.

For my Canadian brethren,

As most of you know, I ordered my E90 M3 on February 21st 2011. After lots of patient waiting, I finally received a VIN from my dealer yesterday, coupled with a screen shot of the production status as sent to the Sales Manager from BMW Canada.

The email culminated with the comment that the car has been produced, and is awaiting a ship at port in Germany, meaning that I should see it before the end of June. *sigh*

The wait is the least of my worries. I ordered an AW with the ubioquitous extended FR Novillo leather. In reviewing the screen shot attached to my email, it shows that the car is AW with extended *black* leather. I hope this is just a glitch/typo/oversight on somebody's part, but I'm genuinely fearful that the car has been produced with the wrong interior colour.

I have two signed "quotations" between myself and my CA (one original and a later revised one) that depict the correct AW/FR colour selections.

If the car shows up with the wrong colour, what do you folks suggest that I do? For subjective reasons alone, I do not want the black interior with a white exterior. Had I known I was getting a black interior, I would have opted for a different exterior colour.

Long story short-if my "special order" car arrives after 4 months of patiently waiting, and is not what I ordered, what are my options? Reordering an E90 M3 is touch and go given the EOP of the sedan, not to mention I don't want to wait another 3 or 4 months.

I already received a fair discount from the dealer, so am not sure if they will honour a further discount; throw in the free extended leather perhaps?

Thoughts, comments and suggestions would be welcome.

Cheers
Asif

I would confirm that it is wrong but with the documentation that you already have it probally is.I would have them reorder the car and BMW Canada should be able to get the car expedited so you get it without too much further delay.Would they give you a further discount if you took this car?

I will confirm today whether or not the order is wrong. Even if they expedite a new order (June production maybe), the car won't be here until the end of August. I'm not keen on waiting that long since this will be a summer only car for me.

I'll check on the additional discount factor today. If it's lucrative enough, I'll take it, and failing that, I have no qualms in waiting for something else that really tickles my fancy; Cayman S perhaps

Update; Called the sales manager today and received a not too confident "hmm....that's not right" on the phone. He's going to confirm with BMW and have an answer by Monday.

In the interim, a few random searches here show that others have ordered cars and been given online updates that are showing missing/incorrect option selections. There's hope yet!

Good luck Asif! Keep us posted.

I'd re-order and get BMW Canada to rush the production. You'll shake your head everytime you get in the car with black leather, if you're set on fox. June production should be July delivery, not end of August, no? I'd get the dealer and BMW Canada to compensate for the extra wait, as well. I don't think that's an unreasonable request.

I've decided that if the car has ben built incorrectly, I'm not taking it, despite any possible further discount.

As for a reorder; certainly a possibility, however, I'm not too optimistic that it will arrive by the end of summer. Afterall, I did order this one back in February!

Hoping that I will get some good news on Monday!

Well folks, today my worst fear was confirmed; the car has been built incorrectly and is enroute to North America as I write!

I was offered a discount for taking the incorrectly built car, but certainly not enough of a "deal" to consider buying something I don't really want.

After much negotiating and complaining (with good reason), I've been able to convince my CA to reorder me a new one. While I won't divulge the specific discounts, lets just say that my new build now includes the Competition Package as well as the Performance Exhaust *grin*. The dealer's GM has to sign off on the deal tommorrow, so I hope all goes well. Failing that, I've already drawn my line in the sand and will be asking for my deposit back and moving on.

The only dismal piece of news is that the car will likely have a June build, but no guarantees on getting it before the end of August. Apparently the train ride from Halifax to Calgary is a 10-12 day deal in and of itself, so that will take up quite a bit of time.

Hoping for some good news in the morning!

I'm sure the GM will try and keep your business and loyalty. Obviously you're going to buy more cars there in the future if they rectify this appropriately.

Great negotiating!

It would be my pleasure to drive it from Montréal to Calgary in two/three days and fly back home. That should save you about a week.

I received confirmation from my CA this morning that my new car has completed production and has "left the factory". The next update will be at "port of exit" which according to my CA will take a day or two.

Having checked the W&W website, I noticed that there are two Halifax bound ships leaving either on July 20th, or on July 31st. Any educated guesses as to which ship my car will make? of course, I'm hoping for the former!

At the risk of bumping a stale thread, I'm happy to report that according to BMRLVR who helped me track my car across this far land via rail, my (correct build) M3 arrived in Calgary yesterday evening.

I'm fully anticipating that it will be released from the rail yard today, meaning that I should have it at the latest, by the end of the week.

Thanks to BMRLVR for the reliable tracking, and as well to the other members on the Canadian forum for making the wait that much more tolerable!

Cheers

Congrats Asif. My 2011 arrived in Toronto today as well, I won't be getting my car until I get back from Boston though.

On the other hand, Boston is lovely this time of year and I'm staying in a great part of the city...
