Yep. Transferring the light from the stock knob was a real b*tch, but I wouldn't do it any other way, as that's one of the nice touches of M cars. Turned out perfect. The other thing I had to do to look factory was to build up the boot right below the knob's ring. If you just tie-wrap the boot to the shaft, it'd look like crap. And also the tie-wraps' 'heads' would look like crap, so had to install them backwards, which required to do cutouts on the tape I had to wrap around the shaft to bring the thickness to the ring's diameter. Hard to explain, but when you're there, you'll know what I'm talking about. Drives and feels MUCH better, and also look much better IMO. Hope this helps.

Most dangerous mod ever. Wear a helmet. I pulled my knob off, punched myself in the nose, said some curse words and threw my knob across my apt parking lot into the woods.

There is a pretty good thread on E46fanatics which you should look at.

I am in the process of doing the lighted ZHP shift knob mod. I found it much easier if you use a sudden upward jolting motion to pull the knob off. It come off pretty easily. Just make sure you are doing it straight up relative to the shift lever. If you try to apply constant pulling force to the knob, it takes a lot of effort. Good luck. 8 )

Assuming you've already took off the boot then sit in the passenger seat and put the car in 6th and pull up.
