That was the biggest POS i ever bought. balls would roll down the barrel and then when you shoot they just blow up in the barrel when they hit the stationary ball. Also it would also plug up or something. Half the time i could never get hardly any pressure.

Maybe i just had a lemon..
Ouch, what paint were you shooting? Usually even with way undersized paint the detents should keep the paint from rolling down the barrel, perhaps they were damaged / missing?

Sounds like you were getting dropoff, could be a number of different reasons for this i.e. dwell too low, damaged/missing/missaligned orings in either the bolt or regulator, low batt, etc. Could also be caused by whatever air system you ran since that might not have been keeping up either.

ion owner here and i have no problems with it so far. used it for years. did a lot internal work done. and it shoots so smooth, barely any recoil and its quiet with my J&J barrel. I thought it was worth the money ( i got it on sale a while ago so, it was a good deal).

This seem to be practice these days, however, you can use a tippman in speed ball if you like and add an electric trigger and swap it in an out depending on the what you are playing.

You better check on the rules at your place since you do not want to go out and spend money on something and not be able use it the way you want.
Thanks for the heads up
There are 4 places i go to, I'll give them a call.

Not too bad a setup for you to start with. Make sure the paint is still good and new-ish...if you're getting all this shipped to you especially.

Read the manual, see how everything inside the guns works. If you don't clean it after every few times you use it (I always did it every time)....you'll regret it.

Dont do it!! Lol, let me tell you from personal experience that paintball is a very addictive and very expensive sport. I started off with a cheap gun and ended up
Spending over 2k on the sport!! Now i think of all the mods I couldof gotten for my car instead

Also had a tippman 98. you could throw that gun in the mud and it will still work. I never cleaned or oiled my o rings and it still worked as long as i had it.
Good for a backup gun when your electronic gun breaks down.

I've been using a SmartParts Ion for about a year now and have had absolutely no problems with it. It works perfectly fine. I think the problem was with your hopper and not the gun itself. I think an Ion is the best entry level gun out there especially since you can find them cheap almost anywhere for $100 used.

I cant remember what hopper i had but it would feed balls at least as fast as 30/sec.
It had a laser eye and never broke a ball. I think it was Dye or something.
My gun might have just been a dud i dont know, i took it apart many times to figure it out and eventually just sold it for next to nothing.

Gosh I miss paintball. I have not played in forever. I played in the World Cup of paintball in 2003. I have not played since prob 2004 though. So much fun! Back in the day I had a 2002 Dark Angel LCD, that gun was schweet.

Is paintball as big as it used to be?

I haven't played in so long and I def miss it I had a matte black Angel One. The thing was soooo sexy and it lit people up too with stupid accuracy. A bit of a bitch to maintain, though.

Just played a few weekends ago. Love my tippman A5. I bought it used, had it for 3 years. Play like only 3 times a year and it always works awesome. Have a WASP board trigger; thing has to shoot at least 25bps with good paint. Paid $250 for it.

Hard to beat that in my opinion. Parts are cheap and readily available should it break down.
