Used engine from Car Fire

This summer I became the owner of M3 sedan with <60k miles. As part of this ownership there is the common stress of determining when the engine is gonna go bang and how much will it cost to resurrect it.

I was thinking of buying a burned car and salvaging the engine/or block since I have been looking at prices for both and they are not cheap.

Am I over thinking this?
Is the aluminum good?
Or should I just LS swap when the time comes?

LS Swap, they make it very easy to do now.

Check the facebook group, plenty of good examples done with perfectly running LS's.

Replace the rod bearings and don't worry about it again.

I steer clear of burn cars. Fire departments have a penchant for getting water in the engine. On these engines any water inside is a no-go.

We've bought a few burn cars with no apparent engine damage from the pics or description. Still had water in the engine and needed full teardown.
