Super Cheap Motul Engine Oil Alert!

Just thought i'd share this here. I don't own my BMW M3 anymore but i did use 5W40 oil when i owned them. Motul 8100 X-cess 5W40 is the cheapest it has ever been at $59 for four 5 liter jugs. That's 20 liters, or 21.13 quarts, or 5.3 gallons!!! Link here: http://amzn.to/2cGCe9v

I did verify with Yvette, a manager at Motul USA in Cypress, Calif that these do indeed look genuine judging by the font's used, labeling, jug design, and pour cap design. She was not able to verify the production numbers printed on the bottom corner of the jugs, but she said they look very familiar. She also confirmed a 2 year expiration from production date. Some jugs may be expired or close to expired, but i wouldn't doubt there's any issue using expired engine oil. As a matter of fact, i read a few articles on BITOG, one where a (supposed) retired Mobil chemist did a test on 22 year old motor oil and it tested as new.

Some reviews say there's a mistake and they only received one jug, some reviews say they received four. I ordered from the same link several months ago and received four. So have other people i know of verified by picture.

Thanks for the link.

I am not using 5w40 but still nice of you to share.

I checked and Amazon is actually selling this and there shouldn't be much trouble to get the advertised 4 bottles.

What is strange is that they also sell another set with a slightly different pet number also 5w40 and as a set of 4 for 123 dollar?
That's more then double the price of the "cheap" oil and also sold and shipped by Amazon?

Perhaps someone can ch do the different pet numbers and find out what the difference actually is before buying.

Anyway, thanks again for the heads up

The S65 engine needs high quality oil with BMW factory specs ,and not any kind of cheap oil .

Thank you for this! That's an absolute STEAL for high quality oil. Not applicable to our S65 motors but perfect for non-Ms. I just ordered two sets, that's enough for 6 oil changes on the 328i lol.

Motul makes a 10W-60. I'm making the jump.

Looks like it's dead deal now.

I've been getting 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1 0W40 and 15W50 from Walmart and then get $12 off each jug with the Mobil 1 rebate.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

The factory spec is for 10W 60, not 15W 50. BMW engineers had reasons for these viscosity requirements. If you want to play Russian roulette with a $15,000 engine be my guest. Just don't cry when something breaks or expect the warranty (if you have one) to cover it.

I dont want to get into a pissing match with you about oil weights, but lets be honest, using different weights of high quality synthetic oil especially this close to the factory weight is hardly Russian roulette. Been using Motul 4100 oil for 4 years and I am certain its a quality alternative to the factory oil. People have run much lighter weights successfully though I would not be comfortable with some of the weights people use.
