Chicago area M3 shops? (battery replacement?)
The battery on my M3 is in need of replacement. I've been reading all the threads in the technical forums for the last hour to see what my options are. I see people posting that you can do anything from trying a battery charger to a DIY install of an aftermarket battery. I'm leaning towards just getting an OEM battery. I'd like if possible to avoid an expensive dealer visit and instead was wondering if there are any places that work on M3s that aren't dealers. I hope it might be cheaper there. Plus, in the future I can get other work done there as well. Any recommendations? Is there any place I can purchase an OEM battery (besides dealer) and have a shop put it in? Anyone else in this area replace the battery?

Aftermarket batteries typically don't fit well. If you want weight savings, consider a CSL/Mini battery. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=321965
I had my dealer do the swap because I've heard that the battery has to be re-registered with the car computer.
