R U Happy With Blackberry Pearl and GPS in the One-er?

Hi,

Will prolly order a 135i shortly, but am wondering about how the Blackberry Pearl's GPS functions translate into the 135i WITHOUT the iDrive Nav? I don't even own a Pearl yet, so I don't know how well the phone handles GPS. Given most car manufacturer's slow adoption of new smart phones into their onboard protocols, how well does the Pearl work? (Sprint is my service provider.)

Does the Pearl give audible directions for GPS or just a silent map view? If the directions are audible, does Bluetooth allow you to hear these directions over your car's stereo?

Would you buy your Blackberry Pearl all over again?

Thanks,
Brad

You will need to LD Telenav on the pearl. The curve has it standard. The phone to get will be the "Bold", but it is not out yet. My wife and I love the pearl and you will too. I'd get the pearl for now, and then the "Bold" will be out by the 3rd quarter of this year. It is on the website now, so check it out. www.blackberry.com

I would get a Blackberry Curve, or the new Bold instead of a Pearl. Bigger screen, much better keyboard - it's worth the extra cost. My father-in-law has the Pearl and has a hard time entering text.

I've got the 8830 and love it. The GPS is very basic, but works very well. But AFAIK, there are no audble directions on the Blackberry GPS.

Thanks for the input. I checked out the Bold, and it says it will be available starting this summer. So, early fall with the usual launch delays.

For some reason I seem to recall the Curve has some shortcomings. I'll need to go look again.

I think I'd rather wait until the Bold comes out than to get a Pearl now and Bold later. Don't want to learn two phones. I only have so much bandwidth!

Thanks again,
Brad;-)

I use my AT&T Tilt for nav in my car, using TomTom Navigator software. Voice nav works well, and the maps are at least as good as NavTeq's system in the BMW. It isn't integrated though, like the iDrive version is. I also pay for the traffic service, and get RTT info while using nav for $24/year.

Does RTT really work? I know in my friend's '07 Mini traffic information isn't exactly always up to date.

It does for mine, up here in Boston. I get rerouted, but since I am not going by the problem areas, I can't say if the accident or broken down car had been removed by then.
