05/2008 Production 6mt e92 pulley belt check....
hey guys,
my car is at the detailer and was hoping someone with a 6mt e92 made in may 2008 could tell me whether their belts are double sided grooved or single-sided, all my research says it should be single sided but to check the physical car...my car is not available...it is to know which pulley kit to get.... thks |

Don't rely on the date only, check the routing first. Alternatively some vendors can check the VIN to see which it is.
I had a May 08 6MT with a "June" belt set-up. Here's my thread on that. Happy hunting. |

03/2008 production and I have single sided belts. What's the reason for the switch? Do I need to have them replaced?

No! They switched the rotation of the power steering in later models. The "June 08" forward build use double sided ribbed belts and have an anticlockwise power steering rotation; you have a clockwise power steering rotation and have no need for a double-sided belt. Why they choose to make the switch I do not know; but there is no cause for concern, yours is fine as is.

Thanks Tom. A picture does tell the tale best!
Only thing I'd underscore is to check if the car was built around the cutover point. Mine was a May build with "June" routing. These Picts make it easy to check and secure the right version. |

That's why it's always best to perform an inspection if you're close to the cutoff date, this ensures you get the corect part the first time.

Those close to the changeover should always check to be 100% sure, it only takes a minute.
