DCT Rev Protection

It seems that this gets mentioned from time to time but I will soon be in the market for a DCT and wanted to ensure that it has rev protection for my wife.

To clarify, I she is going down the highway at 60 mph and accidentally hits the downshift paddle too many times to 1st gear (or is neutral or reverse selectable from the paddle), will the car over-rev past the redline or will it stop the shift from occurring? I know that with my 335i auto, it just blinks when you command a shift that would over-rev but the shift does not occur.

the DCT has a over-rev protection from what i've been reading here, like 99.9% of automatics today...

The DCT WILL NOT ALLOW a downshift that exceeds redline. It simply won't downshift.....and completely ignore you.

It wont blink, beep, give you a nasty message, etc. It just ignores you. lol

But its worrying that you would let your wife drive it.

Hahahaha, "honey I can't get the car out of neutral" "oh yea I forgot to tell you, the DCT is resistant to that second X chromosome."

One great feature is the ability to set the driving parameters via the key fob and using the "M" button. With the button you can set EDC, DSC, power (throttle response), steering, drivelogic, and shift lights. So she can start the car push the button and she will be ready to roll; if you set the drivelogic to D3, for example, she will be in auto mode 3 and she won't have to worry about paddle shifting. You can further set the M key settings for EDC, power, and shift lights so when the car senses the key it will enter these settings. Note that pushing the "M" button overrides these. I did that for my special lady and she is happy as a priest in boys town. DCT is a great option, I think you will like it; take it for a drive and see if you agree.

The only thing that screws up rev protection is changing the final drive ratio and/or putting smaller wheels on the car...
