MY2012: Correlation between production number and production date?

After speaking with a few people, I'm curious to see if there is any correlation between the production number and production date/week. In the case of MY2012, we're all pretty much sitting and waiting in line based on dealer allocations.

That's PW36, kmarei. PW35 will make your M3 a MY2011.

Well my production week is 36
But my car should be ready tomorrow per BMW tracking phone number
Tomorrow is still week 35

Actually there should not be a pw35 of any model year
Isn't the factory closed then?

I think that the factory was closed for two weeks last week.

Technically, your car will be MY2012 by just one day of PW35 because Sept (09/11 production) is the start of the MY.

I'm assuming that's an ED pickup? That would likely put you between PW36 and PW41 according to the info we have so far.

Something is not right
My car should be built tomorrow (1st of September)
And it is a 2012
Week 36 starts September 5th
If it's ready tomorrow it means production started earlier
Unless they whip up an M3 in 8 hours or less

So either your info is wrong
Or the BMW tracking info is wrong
I just called and checked now
It says your car is in the body shop with a scheduled completion on September 1st

So how is that pw36?

Sounds like BMW finished up their 2011 allocations early and decided to get a jump on the 2012 cars before their official MY2012 start date tomorrow.

Well, look at it as PW36 or 09/11 is MY2012, whichever is first.

When I call, I get a message that my car is scheduled for production with no confirmed production date yet.

364xxxx - Prod. started 8/26 and is scheduled for completion 9/5 (although I was originally PW36, but I guess I'm PW35 now)

Yesterday the 1-800 number said it was in the body shop with a completion date of 1st of September

Today I just called and it said it was in the paintshop

Should be ready today
