$3500 for 48 months 48k miles extended warranty?
Just ran over 50k miles... Local dealer offers me this extended warranty to additional 4 yrs for $3500. This is the Hendrick autoguard warranty at East Bay BMW, not the typical one I read b4 from BMW offered at powertrain, gold and platinum levels.
I plan to keep my car for a long time... Is this worth it? Reading the brochures, seems like cover everything (transmission, engine, AC...). Not sure Nav... I will ask tomolo . What u guys think? |

You want a warranty that lists the excluded items (called an "exclusionary warranty"), not one that lists the included items. The latter will almost always find a way to not cover whatever breaks. "Bumper to bumper" means nothing unless it is an exclusionary warranty. "Powertrain, silver, gold, platinum" are also meaningless terms.

There are stories of dealers selling aftermarket warranties from companies that go out of business, fail to pay claims, are nonresponsive, etc. Consumer reports and other organizations have done studies identifying the better companies. If it is not a BMW warranty, do your research first.

Many of those companies have a 'prorated' table folks, so you need to be careful. Since every component has a life expectancy, it only makes sense. You need to read EVERY FREAKING WORD of the contract, to make what you're getting. Deductibles are another typical surprise.
Typically, extended service contracts (they're not warranties ) are a cash cow for dealers for a reason. Chances of needing more coverage than you paid for are small to none, so I'd just save your pennies . Plus as it was said, when you need coverage, it might not be there. BMW excludes a lot of the things you'd want included, so a waste of money too IMO, but to each his own. Good luck. Last edited by JCtx; 08-29-2011 at 11:44 PM.. |

So is there a consensus on what warranty is the good one? I guess more and more of us early adapters are coming into this decision now. Save us some legwork!
Did you guys get notifications from BMW on warranty, or did you go out and explore options?
