Found it -- May, 2007 Winding Road, p. 79: "...For endurance and stress testing, the M division uses the same extravagant setups F1 squads deploy. For these crucial test the engines are left unlimited and, in the case of the S65, this translates to a top speed of 183 mph. (The production car will be limited to 155 mph.)"

So we can rule out 305kmh, I'm afraid the 280kmh figure is right for the driver's package and if somebody wants to get the full 295 kmh (183 mph) out of the M3, he'll have to "go" aftermarket...

Another mystery/spec probably laid to rest here. Nice work Greg. However... If this was the originial W.R. M3 article I found quite a few inconsistencies or just down right errors in the article. I posted here on the forum about it, e-mailed them but never heard a peep back. It would not surprise me if they were not exactly right.

They have that option here in australia, but you need to have a CAMS (racing) licence for them to remove the speed limiter (at the dealer). It can be fixed aftermarket also if you wish.
