Anyone bevel edges of their pads?

I was just reading through some of Pagid's material online and saw that they recommend filing or beveling the leading edge of new pads at a 45° angle prior to installation for better contact/mating between pad and rotor. Does anyone do this? Easy to do? Any tips? Thanks!

Should be a fairly easy procedure. I didn't do it but I can see how it would make sense. Big file and a vise should do it.

The bevels are there for preventing noise, chatter, and binding

You have to dig deep, brother... If you read Ross Bentley's "Speed Secrets 43: Taking it from the Buffet to the Brakes", it mentions that Rahal only ate the filling, whereas Andretti didn't eat Oreos at all during the Indy season.

I did it but with sandpaper. I had horrible binding issues with my Mintex F3Rs so was forced into it with those pads.

I have the Pagid RS19s and I noticed that they weren't beveled, but the OEM pads are. I didn't think to try to modify the Pagids and haven't had any issues yet.

Also have the Pagid RS-19's. Good as they are out of the box ( plus bedding in).

?? Are you kidding me? Seriously? Pagid can't sell a product that's ready to be installed? Binding?? Time to buy another brand of pad. My Hawks are not beveled, I throw them on and good to go. No issues.

slow your roll. he asked if it was needed not said it was? the post before yours states they are fine without. as are most except apparently mintex.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I ended up checking with my local speed shop as well--they said filing/beveling isn't absolutely necessary, but it sometimes helps to achieve better pad-to-rotor contact sooner.

Was hitting 155 at the end of the back straight at Mid Ohio (BMW CCA) last weekend and the Pagids were working great.

Didn't do that all weekend though as I was on street tires, it was 38F and I didn't want to know why the sand trap at the end of the straight was named China Beach

Overall, Mid Ohio is a very technical track and quite frankly, dangerous road course near Mansfield, Ohio. It is a handling track more so than just horsepower and has just about everything a great road course should have -- elevation changes, high speed straights (near 140 mph), fast 'pucker-factor' corners, and a few tight corners thrown in just for good measure. Extremely challenging, it takes lots and lots of seat time here to be fast. Do not expect to make drastic lap time improvements from visit to visit -- it comes in tenths of a second and sometimes hundredths. The bad part about this track though is that there is little room for error. A large part of the course is bordered by concrete walls and in some places is very close to the racing surface. You really have to pick your spots to push the limits here because the consequences are painful and expensive. Over the years, Mid Ohio has improved the safety adding more tire walls and extending the gravel traps while moving back some of the railings.
