I find it amusing people compare the M6 to an R8. Try M6 to Bentley GT / SL63, CLxx for lap times, this is a closer comparison.
RS4 yes.

But I have a sneaking suspicion the IS-F will have some very nice lease deals and other incentives come next December-to-Remember.

TheAcAvenger,

Thanks for the support but I never wanted to turn this into a BMW vs Audi thread as there is enough of them else where, the debate is meant to be about which is better the M5 or M6 and that is really where it should stay. I may add that I agree with everything you posted but looking at the data you supplied there is one thing which is bugging me, the RS4's ring time of 7:58, surely that is not the official time as it's meant to be 8:09. If I am correct then you would have to allow the other cars the same.

I agree that Audi are best known for luxury all weather cars and the occasional sportscar (RS4, R8 and soon to be join by others). The interesting thing to me that I noticed in your data is the difference in wet lap times between the RS4 and the R8, we know that the two use totally different awd systems with the R8 only able to move up to 30% of it's power to the front, great for driver input but looking at the figures it's much poorer in wet handling grip. If only Audi could come up with a system which matched the driving appeal of the R8 with the all weather performance of the original Quattro.

I am actually looking forward to see what the new Sports diff that both BMW and Audi will be adding to their respective awd cars, BMW will be first with the X6 and Audi will follow hopefully sometime this year, in the Audi it's to be added to the original Quattro system. Will this give the extra entertainment I and others are looking for while still retaining the extra safety in the wet.

Only time will tell, but I hope so as I would like to consider another Audi in the future.

don't the M cars also have near 50/50 weight distribution like the rest of BMW's?

I don't think any BMW has perfect 50 / 50, it is an aspirational goal for BMW.

I wouldn't get too hung up on it....last minute tuning of the suspension will affect this......it is just a static measurement....

M5>M6 (for performance)

M5<M6 (sexiness IMO)

for me the M5 is more a established man's car. and the M6 is more a younger person who wants to have fun.

dont get me wrong, i would take either in a heartbeat!!!

Interesting take, funny how perceptions are different.

For me, the M5 is more of an ultimate status car for the knowledgeable enthusiast...the best performance/luxury sedan you can buy for $100K, perhaps at any price?

The M6 is the I just got a membership in the AARP otherwise I would have bought something else car. Or the I really don't know too much about cars but this looked cool car. But I really feel that way about the whole 6 series, I just don't get it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion on cars and who drives them.

The only things that i will debate are technical issues.

Obviously driver68 doesn't value the M6 like I do but who cares? But BMW stole a bunch of other sales by producing the car....for e.g., I was on my way to get a GT3 before I was intercepted by my dealer.

This is a thread on M5 vs. M6...but the real issue is Audi understeers

BTW, just a note on the demographics of M6 owners (from my interaction on the M5board), we are younger than the M5 owners.....

Exactly, I was not ripping on the other opinion, nor hopefully would others mine, only noting the difference in perception.

Did someone mention tree.

Or was it flames.

Or is this a photo of you after you tried and failed to keep up with a S5.
