MY2012 E92 M3 ordered for Euro Delivery - now picked up!

Well, I finally did it!

Two weeks ago I placed an official order with David Aviles (eurocarsonline.com) for my first ever BMW. This is my order:

M3 Coupe 1237
Jerez Black A73
Competition Package ZCP
Premium Package 2 ZP2
Convenience Package ZCV
M-DCT w/Drivelogic 2MK
Enhanced Premium Sound 752
BMW Apps 6NR
Heated Seats 494

Why MY2012? Well, I would prefer to do ED in October, and I'm told by several sources that MY2012 M3s won't be available for pickup until October 15th (Saturday) due to emission changes and certificates required that won't be ready until this date. I figure if I'm waiting this long, I might as well go for MY2012. Technically, BMWNA can't confirm my ED order for another ~2 months, until the dealer can place the order for a MY2012 in his system.

No one knows details about any option or pricing changes for MY2012.

I have to say, David Aviles has just been superb with every step of this process so far. He really knows is stuff, and is fast, responsive and had a great price. Thanks again David

Just a bit of a background on how I ended up choosing this car. I haven't had a fun weekend car in almost 2 years (was a '90 IROC-Z 1LE), so I've been puddling around with my daily driver, always interested in a BMW. I started lurking around this forum in late 2009, when the first spyshots of the F30 sedan surfaced. I thought that would be a great daily driver for me! The more I started learning about BMWs, and the more I thought about what I really wanted, I determined that a standard sedan (while fun) would probably not satisfy me long term.

Last Fall, when the 1M details emerged, I decided that it could be the car for me. I got on my local dealer's list with a deposit, and started making plans for ED. I was committed to the 1M! Unfortunately, I started to sour on it, when after months of having a deposit, there was no way my dealer could confirm that I would actually get a car, and when that time-frame was. Since an ED vacation was a high priority, I was not comfortable with the ambiguity surrounding the 1M. I thought my early interest and deposit would avoid all of that, but that is not the way the 1M sales have turned out for a lot of people.

I started to explore other options, and seriously considered the 335is which would come in around the same price as the 1M. The DCT was the strongest appeal of the 335is. Something in the back of my head kept telling me that if I ultimately ended up with a 335is, I would have a pang of regret every time I started it up and saw the ///M logo on the steering wheel. Of course the 335is not a real ///M, why not just go for the genuine article? With ED discount, aggressive pricing from my David Aviles, an E92 M3 turned out to be ~$12K more than the 335is or 1M. That extra money got me a lot more, including the nicer interior, DCT, better stereo, EDC etc. that you can't get with the 1M. I hated the concept of paying the gas guzzler tax, but the lower interest rates you can get on the M3 offset that out when compared to the 1M.

Although I'll be keeping my daily driver for my 35mile daily commute (heavy traffic), I am extraordinarily anxious for the arrival of the M3!

A 2012! Very exciting!

I have the exact same car (except I don't have the stop/start, manual seats or iDrive enhancements like bluetooth streaming that happened a few months after mine was built), and love it.

^^^ Nice car!

I'm a techy guy at heart, so the 6NR and other tech features really appeal to me. Start/Stop might be OK, except you run the A/C so much here in Texas, the car may never shut off!

I have a feeling I might be one of the very first around here with a MY2012, as I'm planning my ED for October 17th.

It may be possible that your MY2012 M3 can be available for ED pick up as early as the end of PW37 (Sept 16th) as they will be produced starting on PW36. Mine will be available for pick up either by PW38 (19th) or PW39 (26th) just because it requires an extra week or so for Individual prep.

That's straight from Individual.

Check again with David for more details.

Thanks for sharing that new info, Technic.

I think I'm OK with Oct 17th pickup. We'll be using airline miles, and the redemption cost goes down 33% starting Oct 15th.

I cannot wait that long as I will be doing PCD as well and it could be possible that the final delivery be then as late as early January if I pick up my car after October 15th.

ED+PCD=FTW!

I actually plan on picking up the M3 at David's dealership in Maryland upon redelivery, and driving it back to Texas. Not quite PCD, but it should be a fun little road trip.

It was actually my wife's idea! She has relatives in Maryland

Standard black Novillo with Carbon Leather. I have black interior/leather on my current car, and quite enjoy it. I'm not really a Fox Red kinda guy, and the lighter colors would drive me nuts trying to keep spotless.

Congratulations Sam!

The Start/Stop system requires several changes to the vehicle. One of them is an ELECTRIC water pump as opposed to the normal belt driven water pump as an engine accessory. In this fashion, coolant can still circulate, and electric fans will continue to pull air across the condenser to allow for the HVAC system to continue to run when the car is in stop mode. This system is seemingly on every current BMW in Germany, and seems to work well. I do agree that a traffic jam on 635 or the tollway in July might be a little more than the system is designed to handle ....

One other advantage of the E92 over the 1M.. Jerez Black vs Black Sapphire.. Sweet!

Thanks! I'm hoping this 1M->M3 change works out well in a few ways!

Interesting. So this means that post Sept 2010 M3 (aka MY2011.5) have a different design to the S65 to facilitate the electric water pump? Well, not different engine design, but sounds like a different belt layout.

Yes, Jerez Black sure is nice looking. Saw an E93 M3 JzB last week, it looked fantastic.

Very Nice 2012. October pick up at WELT can be snowy. Might think about winter weel/tire rental.

I was trying hard to time my ED to avoid that scenario/situation!

I know it can snow as late as March/April, I figured as long as I was gone by end of October I would be OK. Will probably head south to Austria/Italy and take in Stelvio.

Really? Snow in October?

I'll be curious to see if there are any pricing or package changes for 2012.

The car drives like a dream!

In addition to the option list in my first post, I also got extended Black Novillo. Not too many with this option, but I think it looks really great.

I got some wonderful pics of the car today in Austria, I look forward to sharing them when I get back home.

assuming you have some power loss by all belt driven components
shouldn't the cars with stop/start have a teeny weeny bit more power?
and yes i know there will be more current draw by the electric water pump
but that should still be offset by the power gain due to less parastic loss on the engine from the water pump
