for or against automobile bailouts?

I am against it. These companies and their execs needs to change the way they run the company and give out big bonuses to execs and have lavish party dinners at end of fiscal year. Look at what AIG did after getting rescues by fed, have parties. This pisses me off because I am an AIG customer, wth was they thinking?

Against. Other more efficient auto makes will come to the U.S. and employ the schmucks in a non-union capacity.

Let the big three fall. it is time to clean up the mess since they will die with or without a bailout anyway.

Against ...I want more German cars on the road so I can kick their drivers asses

Seriously ...What happened to the idea of "survival of the fittest" which this country's economic model has been based on since its inception. You make shitty stuff that no one wants to buy and own, you have to kiss your fate - a slow death. What is all this kicking and screaming stuff by the big boys these days?

SH*tt,

If they don't change them management and design team, no matter how much the bailout is they will still in the deephole.

Would you buy GM or Ford if you can buy BMW or Japs fro almost the same price and save gas?!? What happen to "Made In USA"?? I remember back in the 70's, we all make the best product in the world and look at it now.........Not well design & out dated.

Any input?

Don't get me wrong, I am torn with the idea of bailing out GM and the other U.S. automakers, but what we need to realize is the mass effect that would have on our economy.

There is very little that GM atually produces. The majority of the components of the GM car is a product of outsourcing. If GM fails, 2,100 other companies that supply GM with parts fails with it. Not to mention the mass job loss.

That being said, they need to eliminate labor unions. They do not promote capitalism and they do not nourish a competitive marketplace.

Just my 2 cents.... but I still am torn on the idea.

What about the idiot Unions? They're a big piece of the problem pie too. They need to be dealt with as well.

And they are no longer essential to workers being treated fairly. There are more than enough laws on the books these days that were legislated because of what the initial purpose of Unions were.

Now they're just as greedy as any of the big wigs.

Whether or not you agree with GM and are a fan of their products or not; you have to understand the impact this has. The supplier chain, the dealer network, the ad agencies - and with a lack of advertising... media will suffer. It will have a global impact.

The greed of the unions is out of hand. There was a time when they had a reason for being; but that time is long gone. The legacy costs, multiple products cannibalizing your own sales, poor customer service, and inept management is what's killing the domestic companies.

honestly guys, this is when i regret voting for Obama, and this is when i go WTF this is socialism! if they cant compete, too bad. those other business and the 1.6 million people are just unfortunate. there's nothing we should do about that.

it's sad and all.. but that 25 billion will ONLY get GM thru the rest of the year, that's all! after that, they will go bankrupt again... read this

http://money.cnn.com/2008/11/18/news...ion=2008111804

also IMHO those states in the middle should all be kicked out of the union (i.e. the USA). those suckers keep on leeching from us. fuck them

Funny isnt it that some in DC wanted to bailout the financial insts but are on the opposite side for Detroit. Both should have been made to deal with their shortsightedness. Did you hear that Goldman Sachs paid out 16B (YES BILLION) in bonuses in the last 12 months? Some secretaries were making 200K$

We cant save everyone from the unemployment line and keep the nation afloat. GM is really the white elephant. Ford and maybe to a lessor degree Chry (bc its private now), have the ability to make it on their own. These should not be looked at as saving the big 3 - GM is braindead and its time they are put out to pasture.

AGAINST. They'll fail either way bec ause of poor management. Unfortunately Congress doesn't care about my grandchildren's future and will give them $25 Billion only to have them squander it to execs and fail 3 months later.
