HRT and Mercedes GP are running 2011 cars.

The purpose for Mercedes to do that was to factor out the performance difference from the new Pirelli new tires.

HRT...probably just not ready....=/

It looks to me like Hamilton's seat is positioned higher than in previous years.

I wonder if there was a visibility issue, or the car is just overall lower around him now. Could also be the result of just sharing a chassis with Button for testing. We'll see how his seating position is at Melbourne when his personal chassis is completed.

Adrian Newey on the letterbox intake.

The slot in the nose is simply driver cooling. Traditionally the driver cooling slot is at the front of the nose, but really for styling as much as anything we moved it to where you now see it to break up the aesthetics of the ramp.
Decently long interview with him on a variety of subjects.

By just looking at the bottom edge of the visor, looks about the same in relation to the back edge of the nose-to-cockpit....

Or just having him to sit higher to avoid crashing into Massa again...

You might be right. The top of his helmet just seemed to pop out further than usual to me.

On the topic of Massa, take a look at the wing mirrors on the top 3 cars. McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull. They are all generally mounted the same way/geometry. And they are all VERY tall! Especially Ferrari, those things are so tall that they get in the way of some of the photos.

see below for example:

I forgot if there's a new regulation in 2012 for mirror elevation. If you check the McLaren and Red Bull, the mirror looks higher than last year.

But for the Williams and Sauber, seemed like its relatively lower but further away from car center...where Lotus and Toro Rosso is about the same as 2011.

Ferrari and McLaren, sandbagging since 2009....
Despite a few more wins from McLaren and mathematical title contender back in 2010....

Or they might be blowing smoke...just setting some parameter in certain "pace" and probably heavy long run fuel load....

True.

Also, regarding Ferrari, I think McLaren proved last year that even a car that tests poorly can turn in serious wins when the races begin.

I wish that Renault would go back to the French racing blue color. That black just doesn't stand out on the track.

That RB8 'toaster slot'...I bet it directs air down onto the wing attached to the underside of the corner to get even more downforce on the front end somehow. By far the best looking step-nose out right now.

I hope McLaren stick with the smooth nose!
