Starting up a hobby...

So I wanna start up a hobby. Not really sure what to think about at the moment. Here's what I have so far:

- Jet-skiing on the water. I've been looking up the price of Seadoo's and they're in or around 10-20 grand brand new. Who here owns one, maintains it, and regularly enjoys this hobby?

- Para-gliding or sky-diving, though I suspect I won't be able to do this as often (maybe like 4 times a year?).

All in all, I'd like to hear what kind of hobbies you guys have. Are you a foodie? A movie-nut? A collector? Womanizer? Lmao.

The budget for this would be in-or-around 20 grand, let's say. I think that leaves out collecting cars as a hobby but safely puts everything else within reach. Suggestions guys!

i don't know what it's like where you live but if you like outdoors/nature stuff, there's: hiking, rock climbing, surfing, fishing, etc.

Remotely into shooting sports? ATA trap shooting is a blast, and with $20k to spend, you can get plenty.

You can also get a pilots license and enjoy flying around in a small cessna, maybe not buy one but surely you can rent it whenever you want.

Not sure if I'd enjoy being a pilot but it sure sounds like a cool hobby! Do they offer any introductory lessons for beginners to see if they like it or not?

Not into motorcycling at this point. Not after watching that russian video posted here the other day.

Anyone here sail or windsurf or kayak? I'm beginning to seriously consider this but I'm wondering how physically built you'd need to be. How demanding is it?

P.S. Planning on joining a sailing club (if i commit to this), getting lessons, and getting all the gear, should be north of 4 figures. Still well within the budget though.

Go shooting. It will be an expensive hobby but worth it. Got my first handgun, now I have 3. I'm into rifles now, and I have 2. I'm thinking of buying a shotgun once a finish my AR project.

Did you play any instruments back in the day? If not, why not pick one up? It's never too late to learn guitar, etc. I'm a drummer (I have an e-kit so I don't wake up the whole building), and it's just such a chill way to relax after a long day or do something creative as a hobby. The down side is that it will usually take at least 6 months before you start enjoying it, unless you are some kind of prodigy.

This is somewhat car-related, but have you considered joining a karting league? Local go kart tracks usually have a 'league' set up for enthusiasts - you pay a one-time fee (couple hundred bucks), which allows you to participate in a set number of races, with practice and qualifying sessions. It's effectively a championship, and there are usually different classes (by weight or ability). If the track is indoors, it's a year-round thing, and it's usually a lot of fun.

Build a SPL car audio competition vehicle. Buy a cheap dedicated car for the power and rules category you want to be in and build it yourself. Compete around the US in all the major events.

I did it for 3 years and it was fun. Wifey went everywhere with me. Got texas state champ 2005 and 2006. 4th place at world finals. Gets VERY competitive and fun. Money will only take you to a certain point then its all brains and knowledge/science.

You could get a motorcycle and turn it into a track bike and then do track days. No street riding at all. It is much safer this way.

i've been doing a bit of scuba diving lately. i'm enjoying it and it's something you can do for relatively cheap once you get gear, etc. i'm also into skydiving, but haven't been doing that as much lately. both are tremendous amounts of fun (i would put skydiving above scuba for the sheer fact that it's a little more 'extreme') and provide you with a lifetime of fun and new friends in each sport. one advantage of getting hooked on scuba diving is looking for weekend trips to dive sites. i know a lot of local divers around here that do quick weekend trips to dive sites since there aren't any good sites nearby. plus, you'll find yourself at the beach a lot more.

I plan on getting a jet ski and some DJ equipment after I finish school. I have guns but there aren't many places to shoot them, especially the AR-15. Sailing and scuba diving are out of the question because of where I live. The next thing would be a sport bike for me.
