08 idrive: MP3 Cd's dont work?
I have a 2008 M3, and When i rip a MP3 cd, it doesnt play some/most of the songs. It has no problem playing a regular cd, but it does with MP3's.
Also, when i rip songs from youtube, i cant play ONE song off the mp3 cd. Please help. Maybe its the type of cd im using?

Hmm...I can't say that I've ever made an MP3 CD for my car so I'm not much help here.
I just copy songs on my USB flash drive and plug that into the car. The MP3s on the flash drive play fine and I can see the file names (and the directory structure of how I set up my folders) on the navi screen just fine. |

MP3 CD's Work for Me
Your burn speed and media (the CD itself) can be a problem for the CD player in your car. Try a slow burn speed (4x or 8x). Also finalize/close the disc. If that doesn't do it try a different CD brand. I've always had good results with Verbatim blanks.

By the way, my '08 does play an MP3 CD, but 2 of the songs sounded like if an old LP vinyl disc was skipping. Weird. Had to jump to the next song. I think I recorded the MP3 files at the second highest resolution (190Kb maybe??), but don't remember seeing anything about the burn rate. Used Windows Media Player to burn it. |

I don't plug my USB drive directly into the car's armrest port, because the fit is very very tight. And removing it, I feel I might bend connectors on the car. Therefore, my car came with a short 6" USB cable extender. I plug the extender into the car port, and my USB flash drive into the extender. That way I don't risk damaging the connector on the car. Any damage would be on a $2.00 cable.
I use a 8 GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro. For those who want to plug the USB drive direclty into the car and close the armrest lid, the Sandisk Cruzer Micro will work out. But if you have a larger USB flash drive, then you may need to get the extension cable. My M3 came with the cable. |

Retractable USB Cable
I use a compact retractable USB cable that I got from Cyberguys. It works really well and lets you use pretty much any USB memory stick. Cyberguys has other connectors that could work as well as a number of computer and electronic parts that you don't know that you need (until you see them).

Just checked my 'goody' bag, and there's an extended in there too . And the USB I have destined for songs is a Sandust Cruzer 4MB, which should be fine for a while. Never done any donwloading, so will probably convert CD files into MP3 and put them into the USB drive (was told with no folders). It should be the equivalent of a 6-disc CD changer, right? As each CD holds 700MB max. Once sat radio expires, might buy a larger one. Thanks again.

Il try a slower burning speed then, see if that works. I dont have a USB port, just AUX, i didnt get the USB option...
When i try to play the songs that dont work, it just skips through to the next playable song. It sucks when i take my time to make a awesome cd and it doesnt play.
