Where is the optimal mounting point?
I just purchased a GoPro camera to use for upcoming trackday events and I am testing out different points to mount.
The below is my first try. What do you guys think? If you have a video of what you think is the best mounting point, please do share! |

Personally I like to see driver inputs along with outside scenery, helps you fix bad habits and also correlate driver inputs with the occasional agricultural excursion.

What he said. If you want to learn something, put it somewhere you can see what your hands, feet, and head are doing. If you just want cool video, put it on the rear bumper so you can hear the exhaust
Driver's side rear window is a good spot to catch most of the driver's inputs, shooting over your left shoulder

I like to mount it on my helmet. Don't really care for mounting it outside of the car.

Mine is mounted on a pvc pipe which clamps onto the head restraint bars.
Mic is external wired through center pass and taped onto license plate with a custom wind screen made from a dog toy (fox's tail) and a hairtie lol. |

I bought a cruisecam headrest mount from B&H, similiar to the pvc mounts people have been building. For me this is optimal as I can see how my inputs are. I'd eventually would love to get a camera in the footwell to look at my footwork up close as well. Depending on the club, they may enforce your gopro to be tethered. This one has a nylon strap which I just wrapped around the middle portion of the open backplate and they seemed good with that.

I was looking into those mounts and others out there but the price points didnt make sense for a metal bar and some sort of clamping mechanism. For $5 it may look ugly but it works and will def hurt less if it hit me somehow! |
