my commute is changing and I have to drive now like 100 miles a day. so I figure if I get the blizzaks I will be good in case I get caught in some bad weather but I will try to work remotely if it does have inclement forecasts |

keep in mind two years ago south east mass and ri were hammered with snow and i managed just fine with the winter sport 3d's. i dont have any steep grade hills to manage and my town doesn't use road salt as its an agricultural town with well water. from the sounds of it you are an experienced winter driver so you may lean toward the lm60 and winter sports vs the dedicated snow ability of the ws60. |

I've tried a few brands so far: Dunlop Winter Sports on the 330Ci and my former 545i--good snow and ice traction, and decent dry weather handling Pirelli SottoZero 240s on my former E60 M5--good wintertime dry weather performance, but only so-so on snow and ice; better than all-seasons, but definitely not as confidence-inspiring as the Dunlops or Blizzaks Pirelli Scorpion Snow and Ice on our Acura MDX--very good snow and ice traction, but lots of tread squirm and vagueness on the road when conditions dry (probably similar to the Blizzak WS series) Bridgestone Blizzak LM60s on my current M3--great fit for the personality of the car; very good dry road performance, and also very good in the snow and ice It sounds like you would do fine with a performance winter tire like the Blizzak LM60. The major highways and roads around here tend to get plowed pretty early, and it sounds like if it's a real disaster out there, you would be able to stay home anyway. If you believe the Farmers' Almanac, this year there will be pretty substantial snow accumulations. In any case, with dedicated winter tires, you'll be driving right around the yahoos in their "invincible" SUVs on all-seasons as they slide off the road...

Last winter was very mild, but the Dunlops proved to be excellent on the few days of inclement weather in NJ.

I hear they are both very good tires, but the general concensous seems to be the LM-60 is a little better in the snow and the Dunlps are a little better for handling and treadwear and most other things. So it just a trade off and depends on your priorities.

Check out the survey results - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...sp?type=W&VT=C
My tire guy sells both & told me the Dunlops are the better tire...as reflected in the survey - |
