Personally i can't get over the fugliness of the sedan rear end

But you are going to be in for a world of pain if you get a coupe with a baby on the way. It is going to be awful trying to get things in and out of the rear with a coupe. Especially with power seats... you have to stand there and wait as the super slow motors move the seats forward.

With small kids, no question the E90 is more practical than E92, but - and I speak from experience - the best M3 to get kids in and out and to fit strollers in the trunk is the E93. The trunk lid has a different fitment and allows strollers in sideways and no doors are necessary to move kids in and out.

My wife and I are planning on having kids soon so I took that into consideration when purchasing my M3. I don't care what coupe you get, it will never be as easy as a sedan when it comes to kids and car seats. With that, I chose an E90 M3...IMO looks better than the E92's anyways.

Just get an E90. There is zero sacrifice involved, unless you just hate the looks of the sedan. I personally wouldn't have bought my M3 if it was only offered in the coupe/convertible like the E46 was. I'd be in an M5 instead, and I bought my car three years before kids

We have two E90's in the house and all of the kid crap and a few bags for mom and dad fit in them easily. Two kids is where it would get interesting.

no kids here but i'd take a e90 over the e92 any day, its the reason i never bought an e46 in the first place.

Keep in mind also that kids are really hard on cars. I just cleaned my wife's truck and told my kids (6,3,1.5) that I found the missing zoo animals under their seats. I found so much junk, dirt and crap, it had to have cost her 1-2 mpg from the added weight.

4 doors will make it easier to clean if this is a daily driver w kids.

Really, with kids nothing compares to the E90.

Plus, I think it looks better from the side and the rear, with the mischievous lights sticking up like rabbit ears!

Lease came up and upgraded to an e60 but then we had our second. Moved from the e60 (LOVED THAT CAR) because the trunk was deep but not tall enough for a double stroller. Bought the X5 and that's what we roll in as a family.

Make the sacrifice for a few years, I did and I now have the e92 M I've always wanted.

When I was shopping for a car back in 2011, I really wanted 911. Wife said no, her criteria was, had to have 4 doors as we wanted to start a family. So, I picked E90 M3 and never looked back. I was just speaking to some friends tonight and I told them, is it me or am I the only one who thinks E90 looks better than E92, most of them said, it's only me (they were all E92 owners).

I am glad to see that it wasn't just me. E90 FTW!!!

E90 all the way. I have two kids ages 2&4 and life is so much easier with the extra doors.

I have three kids and have had both and e92 and an e90. The e90 is definately more kid friendly. A rear facing seat is tough in both, but the e90 is more forgiving (middle seat)

Not advisable. You'll be taking more trips to the Chiropractor than you ought to.

I have an E92 and gotta go with the above comments. Though my wife has a four door and I have a four door beater I have on occasion used the E92 and let me tell you swapping the car seats is a pain. Ive given up on replacing the broken little black doors to the car seat latches. Keep in mind the only cars seats that Ive had in the M were a booster and a front facing one with no problems. I cant Imagine having a rear facing seat for the new born and being able to comfortaby fit the lady in the passenger seat. Go for the E90 it will be a better fit, that is unless you have a second four door vehicle.

I like the e90s better - they have a more stout look in the rear (reminds me of the e46 m3). The 4 doors look a little more balanced than 2 door. My opinion anyway.

To OP - We have a 22 month old and the e90 has been great. FWIW, evo magazine preferred the e90 chassis to the e92, so you're not sacrificing performance.

Took my son Chase out in my E90 for the first time this weekend. He's 7 weeks and the rear facing car seat fits quite nicely. Akra Evo put him right to sleep! Ashley, if you're out there, thanks again!
