Paint yours? I used plasti-dip on my front grilles, which take far more abuse from road debris, a couple of years ago and they still look great.

I really want to get rid of the chrome so my side grills match my front hood grills (gloss black) but the only ones I have seen are expensive and I am not paying $300+ for a piece of plastic. I prefer one that doesn't include new LED's, just one that replaces the chrome with gloss black, includes the ///M emblem and reuses the old LED strip.
I bought mine from JBSPEED. He has a thread in the vendor's for sale section. Great quality, perfect fitment, and the price was very good.

I did the tape trick on mine last week (E90). I used the clear packaging tape, and stacked it up pretty well so there was a lot of tape grabbing the side gill. A couple strong pulls, and they came out. Very easy.

I thought about it, but I was afraid it would look ghetto. I may give it a shot just to see how it turns out. If it turns out bad, I will just end up spending the money on some new ones anyway, so nothing will be lost, except a $10 can of paint

Now that's more like it. I can live with $80. I even found some other things I may want to get from them.

fishing line method works!

Just wanted to add to the thread that the fishing line method works! I tried it last night, once you managed to loop the line under the side marker, it can be pulled right out. Although I broke the tab in honeycomb housing just like OP, on both sides... It's hard to pull it out in a controlled way given it is quite tight. But doesn't seem to affect the fitting, the grill still fits securely on the honeycomb, so no big deal I guess.

Only problem was then I noticed I got shipped 2 right side markers... The car will be running with different markers on each side for a couple of days until they ship the left one back to me. Now that is truly special!

Fishing line and plastic trim remover

I just did mine using 4 loops of 15lbs fishing line on the back. Insert loop by loop then tie them together. I use a terry towel to have a better grab. As I was pulling the fishing line loop, I was prying down on the tabs with a plastic trim remover. Really easy. Iyou don't have to pull it hard if you pry the tabs down on the top ones and up on the bottom ones. I wrap them with fiber carbon. Came up nice.

Just finished mine up a few minutes ago.

As someone else mentioned...I LOVE working on my car. But this was one of my least favorite work done to any of my vehicles. It looks sick, but my passenger side was a royal PITA to get off. Wow.

Happy with the end result though!
