Watch OUT!!! SCAM!!!
This guy had the nerves to copy my ebay listing verbatim. He listed the car for a ridiculous price and stole my pictures!!!! Beware as this is for sure a scam. I wrote the guy and auto trader but just wanted to warn everyone!
I hate scammers!!!! http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb |

The real scary part is that these types of ads constantly pop up on autotrader. The scams are very blatant, yet they don't do anything about it. I've seen the pictures of the same car on 4 different ads with 4 different locations and 4 different numbers.
Buyer beware. Most of the scams are really low, too good to be true prices.

Same thing happened to me last January. Sold my car around Aug 08...scammer put my exact ad and photos on eBay 6 months later...but everybody on this board got together and started bidding 100K, 200K dollars...finally got him shut down.
Scammers suck. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=199021

Scammers definitely suck but they would not be successful if everyone just did their due diligence. Unfortunately some people don't. Most scammers insist on money order or wire transfer. If people would just avoid any transactions like that, there would a lot few scammers. |

i had inquired bout a dirt cheap GT3 before ... and the guy wanted me to send a certified check for $2k as a deposit.... there was no way i'd just mail some random person a certified check like that without even meeting the guy. he wouldnt even give me his phone number saying that he didnt have a phone at that time ... and he gave me a PO box address.

You have to be pretty stupid to even lose a deposit to a scammer. One very simple step exposes a scammer 99% of the time: ASK FOR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER. After that, it gets easy to expose that 1% remaining (yes, I made up with the figures ).
I personally NEVER give any deposits. I just tell owners I'd show up to their door to close the transaction within the deposit's allowed time (48 hours or whatever), and if they refuse (completely unreasonable business behavior), deal is off. If they accept, I request a scanned copy of driver's license and title, and if names don't coincide, deal is off unless I can deal with owner directly. Once you do that, the risk of losing plane tickets and incidentals is minimal, especially if you ask the right questions about the car, and you either find a local forum member to check the car out for you and/or hire a dealer to check it for you. I laugh at scammers' tactics and excuses: wire a deposit overseas and car would ship after payment, it's a dying friend's car and it's in a storage, they're changing phone companies and don't have a number, send deposits via Western Union (for US scammers), and crap like that. Again, demanding a phone number alone will make most disappear. I can't imagine even a high-school dropout falling for any of that, but it happens. Good day gang. Some of you are showing your age. I used to work on putting these fuxxers in jail. It is not as simple as you being so chickenshxt as to sit behind your keyboards and armchair quarterback people who fall into scams. Actually, the first victims are the guys who say "how could you be so dumb". Scammers do scams for a living, what they know best is human nature and the art of misdirection and distraction. They play on your greed, it is simple human nature and 90% of the population have no training on how to recognize it when it is one on one in your face or over email/telephone with a true pro who knows ahead of time how to overcome all your suspicions. I have seen hundreds of people who are smarter than many of us (except the members on this board who talk all the physics/dyno/hp/torque curve to the second nut BS haha) and get scammed because greed blinds. You would be much better served saying "glad it wasn't me" or "glad I was able to learn from somebody else's mistake" than calling someone dumb. Okay, not trying to get personal, just some of you should cut scam victims a bit of slack, you weren't there...end of story.

We all become smart by being dumb buddy . Nothing wrong by telling it like it is IMO, like BMWCadet did. And yes, by reading threads like this vulnerable people can avoid ever being one of them on this subject (note the term 'dumb' is being used on a specific action, not as the equivalent of a retard). That's why I took the time to write some pointers . Take care.
