Is your M3 a head turner?
So my wife and I were up at the vacation house in York Beach, Maine this past weekend. Just the two of us, no kids. From Friday through Sunday, I had no less than 6 people give me compliments on my car. While not an in-your-face exotic, my experience in 15 months of M3 ownership is that this car is not at all stealth. It gets noticed A LOT. And I don't have an outrageous color or super-mods either.
Please share YOUR experience.

I get the same. Tons of head turning and nods.

Similar, though in SoCal there are a lot so we've certainly never gotten 6 comments in a weekend.
I think the reason is that when in a regular color it's not flash but there's something undeniably good-looking an muscular in the design. The flares, lip spoiler, f&r bumpers, hood, wing mirrors, roof, lowering, wide tires and widened track all add up to make it look different enough to look special but not different enough to shout "look at me." That brings a lot of goodwill from people who have a passing interest in cars. The raft of changes ensures I've always stared at M3s with an interest that an M6 with it's regular body could never generate, or a C63 which has changes that look too pep-boys tacked on for my taste (still a nice car, so no offense intended). While most would say Astons, to me the only other cars I think are better looking are the E46 M3 and perhaps the B7 Audi RS4 (so as you can see, my subjective opinion on car styling is fairly unique) |

Yes tons of head turning for me as well. But then again when you seen a matte metallic blue thing roll down the road you tend to look. But the m3 in my opinion has never really been a stealth car at all. I had the same amount of looks when my car was a dark sparkling graphite.

I had people tell me I had a nice car when I had my 328xi coupe. I can't imagine what I'll be getting now. There is no denying that the e92 is freaking gorgeous though.

When I drive normal speeds on interstates, somehow people seem to move over for me.
Dunno why. Doesn't happen driving Mrs. MMME30W's Honda Fit.

I went to a Ferarri show hosted in downtown Chicago and as I was leaving (not in the car show, just pulling away from it) people were taking pictures and yelling sweet ride, light 'em up. (Which I didn't.)
I never got much attention until I put the wheels on her...

about once a month someone will say something like "sick car bro" - that's about it. once had a guy in a jeep drive up and ask, "excuse me, do you have any grey poupon?" - that was sort of amusing / interesting.
where it does get a lot of attention is out on the freeway. at least 2-3 times a week, some idiot will try to initiate a race. i get all comers. pick-ups, mini-vans, rice rockets, etc. amusingly, quite a few prius drives want to duke it out. i think that a lot of them have seen that bizarre top gear prius v. e90 m3 comparison.

I agree, this car attracts attention and not always in a good way. I always get some assclown challenging me to a drag race at stop lights and on the highway. It seems to get other drivers riled up.

Too true. It was exactly the same with the far more soberly-styled M5. I think a debadge would be the only way to avoid this but it looks nice so to hell with that.

hardly anything. vast majority see another 3 series. of the comments i do get, 2 out of every 3 are about the LM's.
that's in South FL. i was in Orlando this weekend and i got a ton more comments. so i suppose it depends on where you are. i also got a ton of comments in NC/Tennessee when we ran the Tail of the Dragon, but that's a bunch of petrolheads so i didn't really think that would be the norm everywhere else. |

2 or 3 times in 2 years has someone commented on my ride. The M3 flies under the radar most of the time since there are so many flashier cars in Houston.

It turns the only head that matters, mine. But yeah, back in 2008 people would break their necks since I was in Germany the M3 had just come out and they are rare as they cost a lot more over there. Not so much now which is a great relieve because I didn't get the car for people to look at, I got it to do this:

I was on the freeway today, and a camaro sped up real fast just to give me a thumbs up before he exited off the 91 .
My car looks like this today, nothing exotic, but has subtle mods. Never got this attention in my 335. Lol.
