Not sure about Canada, but depending on miles US owners may be covered by 80k emissions warranty. Also, if you don't have high miles there may be a goodwill warranty to cover part or all of it, like I got.

It's completely random when it happens. When Benvo coded my car, he pulled up the history record for it, and supposedly it's only ever been to dealership for oil changes before I got mine. Bank1 went out at 58k (the week after I got the car...), but no issues with other one. I'm at 80k now.

Luckily you have warranty. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you.

Red face

I haven't posted in this forum in forever...

My '08 6MT just crapped its TA on Bank1, don't laugh, I only have 33K miles on the car. This thread is a great resource, if disheartening.

Obviously I'm well out of warranty, but the SA at my stealership got me a Goodwill discount of 70% on the quoted $1,600 repair, and I'm to be out the door at around $400 with an additional discount on the part. He had some chart he showed me from BMWNA cross-hatched with model year and mileage which showed how much BMWNA may opt to cover, in my case it was up to 70%, which is what he and supposedly the RD were able to convince Corporate to pony up.

Sorry, no technical info here, but maybe useful info in convincing your stealership into going to bat for you...

That's still pretty good, considering the part itself would cost more than that. Very good to know though, never heard about that chart before.

I'm at 85k and haven't had actuator part go. Either throttle or idle. Warranty to 100k. I'm just praying for stuff to break at this point to get replacement parts!!

Anyone in Massachusetts successfully have the throttle actuators replaced under the 8yr/80K emissions warranty?

MY 08 M3 (originally a California car) which has 32K and is getting the faults - I will randomly get all the indicators that seem to point to TBA issues...I have gotten ABS/DSC malfunction warning lights, engine malfunction warning, increased emissions warning, engine malfunction engine running at reduced speed.....when I turn the car on/off I can clear them warning notifications (sometimes I can do it in one on/off sometimes it takes numerous on/off's to clear) and then the car will run fine.

After reading all the pages of the thread it appears I need to replace the TBAs or could it be a loose wire or sensor. Previous codes that were stored that were cleared were P1628, P161F, P2100Pd, U1151. Can someone with a chart please tell me what these codes exactly represent?

Thanks for the assistance.

Bumping up a good thread...

Mine went out at 87k miles bank 2 went out and waiting for BMW NA to call back if they can do a good will or discount estimated time 3-5 days. Still hoping but already bought the parts from GIL@McKenna just incase BMW says no but still hoping. Oh you need parts buy it from McKenna ask for GIL its the only place you can find BMW OEM parts for cheap... i dont think anyone can beat their price.

if BMW NA says no i will do a DIY Video to make it easier for everyone.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...highlight=2b16

you got a lot of codes i was only showing 2 codes and was specifically the TVA bank 2 and the Engine Management and that code was due to faulty TVA. but looks like your bank 1 is out..

I'm going to call BMW NA since I am within the 7/70k for emissions warranty and in back of owners manual it says the throttle actuators are covered

I'm having the same problem with my e92 M3 but it has 95k miles.
I had the same problem before with my e46 M3 where the dealer told me the throttle actuator was bad. I wasn't convinced so I decided to replace the throttle position sensor instead ($80) each. And guess what, the only thing that was bad was the sensor and it fixed all my problems.
Now I'm about to do the same thing on my e92 M3 hoping that I don't have to mess with the actuator itself.
Has anybody here replaced the throttle position sensor?

Did you ever scan for codes to see what came up?

Yes, the codes are 27CE, 27BA, 27C1, 2786, 2788, 2796, 27BB, 2B59, 2B43-44-45-46, 2B4E.
When I looked up 2786 it said THROTTLE VALVE POTENTIOMETER 1 and 2796 - Throttle Actuator Test Lower Stop

Sometimes if I try to use the higher rev range like above 6k it puts me in limp mode and limits the revs to 6k I think. Then on restart it goes back to normal.

Thanks OP, I finally finished on putting on the new Throttle Actuator and its so damn easy.. It was a 1 1/2 job. i dont know why the dealer is asking so much for this job...

Bought the parts from Mckenna from Gil for a good price.

Practically the steps are

1. Remove the intake box
2. remove the Plenum
3. Remove all the 4 screws
4. Remove the wires
5. Remove the 3 Screw that is holding the TVA
6. Lift the middle part (you have to see OP photos)
7. Pull the TVA
8. Replace the TVA
9. Put it all back together.

So I took the old one apart and i could not see anything wrong other than a little dirty all the gears looks perfect and my guess it would be the circuit board but my other theory is the spring inside I compared it to my new one and the old one had a little clicking sound coming from the spring i assume thats probably the issue.

Again Thanks OP without your photos it will probably take a lot longer..

No problem, glad she's back on the road. Did you have to clear codes afterwards?

How can this be the cheapest if this is covered and said in the owners manual of 7 years / 70,000 miles from date of purchase? Thats free in my book and the cheapest route to go.

Just wondering by the way.

"Assuming you don't have a warranty" was kind of a key word.

I'm at 81k miles so I'd be SOL anyway. But from what we've read in this thread, it's still worth talking to the dealership and see if they'll at least help you out.
