Absolutely, the V1 I still think is far superior. In fact, when using the V1 I'm always in "A" mode, I don't use any of the logic or filtering. On the 9500ci I do have x-band disabled and it in "auto" mode changing sensitivity based on location/speed

I've been saved by 9500ix many times now, in a variety of situations: Around a blind mountain corner, 1 mile up in front of me, sneaking up on me, etc. Naturally, if the cop doesn't have his RD on, there's nothing you can do.

re: False Alarms - it's great the 9500ix learns and doesn't do it as much. Have to admit, this would bother me if it falsed any more.

If the cop doesn't have his radar on before you arrive and turns it on when he sees you coming, would a laser jammer help so he couldn't read the speed?
Thanks

Laser jammers only jam laser, radar jammers are illegal, so it wouldn't make a difference if he is using radar and you have a laser jammer.

I recently installed a BEL STi-R Plus, which like others have said, is made by the same people who make the passport 9500ci but with some minor added functions. So far so good. Wanted to get either Blinder or LI laser jammers but they are illegal where I live (actually a class C misdemeanor). If you want to have jammers installed with your radar, I suggest you get the BEL STi-R Plus with either the LI or Blinder jammers instead of the 9500ci. From what I have read the jammers that come with the 9500ci are inferior to the Blinders and/or LI jammers. I don't think you can go wrong with either the Valentine, BEL or Passport though. Just depends on how much you want to spend and whether you want just a radar or radar + laser jammer.

my 9500ix saved my ass twice today on a 3 hour road trip. this brings its return on investment over the last 6 months to somewhere around 3000%

In the end, I looked at both the leading Escort and the V1.

However...they are ugly.

I had a Cobra for almost eight years that was fantastic. And it looked pretty nice on the front windshield.

But the blocky V1 looks like three legos were glued together, then melted. And the Escort looks like a pre-1974 Buck Rodgers TV device.

Since Cobra's had been reliable for me, I went to their website and found the iRadar. First, it has exterior packaging that looks much nicer. Second, if you want to, you can pair it with a BlueTooth iPhone, iPod, Android, whatever, to have a few enhancements. Third, it has much newer technology than what I used previously.

No, we don't buy these things because they look pretty -- we buy them so that they will detect radar/laser signals. After about four weeks of use, the iRadar seems to be flawless.

I have an iPod Touch permanently connected to the USB port in the console, and it is pretty much a dedicated iRadar accessory...primarily to assist with sound notifications. But the last couple of weeks I've just let the iRadar go solo. It makes plenty of noise when it detects something, it only has one small light, and there's a mute button.

Having a new $$ car and then throwing a bulky, ugly piece of plastic on the dash/window was not appealing. The iRadar seems to be working just fine.

..
http://www.radar-mirror.com/ you might like the looks of it more and much better then Iradar in my opinion, but I understand different strokes for different folks.

The driver like me is from Palm Beach and for radar either the Escort or valentine works, but around here the stationery cops (and I mean everyone, state county local) use laser and if your detector says laser, 99% of the time its you and too late.

I suggest an Escort 9500/laser jammer system. Had it in my E46 M3 and no tickets and will get soon for my E93.

No, the blinders or LIs are much more effective jammers as already stated. Again I would suggest browsing the site I linked in my previous post if you want to find out more than what bandwagon a member here has jumped on.

I'll agree with this. I have a V1, and it falses so much, I find it useless. I know others have mentioned "learning" how to interpret the signal or playing with settings, but I've never gotten to the point where I like it versus the Escort.

That said, and I can't believe no one has pointed this out, if you are passing cops at 2x the limit in deserted areas, no detector will likely save you, as the cop can just radar you when you pass, and they'll be nothing to "detect" if no one else was around. If you want to be successful using a RD, you need to use it with some awareness of surroundings, otherwise you'll keep getting tickets and blame the RD. Furthermore, doing 2x the legal limit is pretty stupid in almost any scenario, and in many places will get you a reckless driving in addition to the speeding ticket.

Why V1 advertises it as an aid to "situational awareness" -- the Radar Detector is not so you can speed and not get caught, it is so you are more aware of your surroundings, point is: don't be an idiot

I would suggest V1 but it often gets annoying when there's false alarms.

Actually, this is not correct and hence one of the biggest benefits of having directional arrows. If you know how radars work, then you know that it makes all the difference in the world whether your are heading towards the source or away from it. If you are heading towards the source (i.e. the signal is coming from in front of you), then you need to slow down. If you are heading away from the source (i.e. the signal is coming from behind you), then you actually should speed up.

I don't think so. Maybe used. Not new. So many knock-offs out there. You do have to be careful!

9500ci hands down

GPS features for learning and red light cameras (even though that's kinda unimportant just like....)

V1's Arrows-they mean nothing unless you plan on running-which would beg the question- why have a radar in the first place?

Built in-as v1 can be- cannot be picked up by radar detector detector. Forgot why exactly but I actually called passport and asked. NOTE: the xi can be detected, the two products ARE different

and oh ya-I have 0 points on my license

I've seen several "traps" over the years aimed at folks with radar detectors and here's how it works.

Your detector goes off so you adjust your speed. You eventually identify the cop, pass him and assume it's OK to speed up again. Your detector still goes off but you assume it's from the cop you just passed. However, there is another cop further down the road waiting for you to make that false assumption and he's got you.

With the V1, you can easily identify these kind of traps. They don't happen often but it's just another nice to have feature.

In general my V1 has paid for itself many, many times over the last 6 years.

V1 - but like any device you have to know how to use it...by itself it will not save you...had it for 8 years and dont go anywhere without it...false alarms? sometimes but I take any alarm serious that way I am always on the safe side...always slow down when approaching steep up and downs, and blind corners, otherwise just floor it...once you use it over time it becomes second nature and you will see the cops before they see you...

I've had both the 9500ix and the V1 at the same time. Keep in mind that I have had the V1 for ~3 years and then tried the 9500ix. I think the reason that I preferred the V1 is because I was more familiar with it.

The 9500ix was very nice with all the features that it is. It does a great job with false alerts and red light cameras(GPS in general is nice).

The V1 is a lot more "raw". It does give a ton of false alerts but you kind of get used to it. The arrows are a great feature and I don't find them trivial. It helps to know where the police are.

However, when I had them side by side the 9500ix would pick up actual "threats" a second or two later then the V1. Granted its not much but it could be enough to save you. I would recommend either honestly. They are both great at doing their job but like everyone has stated the radar alone will not save you.
