buttonwillow 7.26 with speed ventures

lot of cars showed up regardless of the 108F weather to drive on the new pavement. last session they coned off sections of offramp (or is it onramp?) and cotton corners. first video is 3rd session in the black group of about a lap and a half. second video is full third session. pretty trafficky but was still fun. when not driving i was in the cafeteria just basking in the ac. saw an f80 and f82.

Someone was pointing me by at the Apex of Grapevine.
He went offline to let me go and lost control, tankslapped right into my Nascar door bar. Lucky for me. Just a scratch on my arm from the debris.
My car has a fiberglass body kit so the door got smashed off.

Nice guy, he apologized and his car was wrecked. I felt bad for him.

glad you are ok...didn't know that you were on these boards when i posted the video. I was the asian dude talking to you in the cafeteria line with the paramedics/firefighters behind us. glad you are both ok.

(i caught my tankslapper in my posted video )

so odd on Saturday, it seemed like a LOT of ppl were pointing ppl by at the strangest of places - i got black flagged for unsafe passing (i think the same place as you got hit) the first right turn after cotton corners, and at the corner entering into phil's hill.....i feel like i had my car under control on these passes though (speed / line adjustments as needed). i did tell them which cars gave me the passes so that they could speak to them as well.

i think more ppl belonged in the purple group that were signed up for black, but it could have been due to sheer number of cars.

Oh Hi.... I remember you.
Sorry if I was a bit out of it talking to you. I was still a bit in shock. 1st time in a track collision. 1st time in any collision since 2005.

I missed my 1st morning Red group run, so I went into the Black group in the morning and it was soooo awesome. I got 10 laps out of that session and only had to pass 2 cars. And Red group seemed to have more cars and more spins and 4 offs. So I decided to stick with Black for the 3rd session. Ran Red for the 2nd session and had a great 3 lap w2w battle with my faster friend.

All in all, I dont think there was that many bad moves in the black group. But I tell you this, looking at your video, I forgot how intimidating and scary it is to have a car as fast as mine come up to you and then pass.
I take away from this, that from here on.... all my passing will be done under braking and on straights. Although dive bombing was a bit scary due to the new track surface and the white construction dust offline.

Ya. I use to track with my e46m3 then my e90m3 and after about 25 events, I had seen some incidents and decided to quit tracking without a cage.

In all honesty, if I didnt have the cage....I would have been airlifted that day with a possible broken hip, legs, shoulder, ribs. His front end would have entered into my space for sure. With the Nascar door bar, it just moved my whole car 1 foot over and bounced away, thats it.

I know not everyone can afford it, or thinks it's necessary.... but ima true believer in a proper cage now.

And I also meant "lucky" because the mechanical damage aspect. Where he hit me, I had minimal damage and I can be on track again soon.
If he hit me a little ahead or behind, it would have been major damage = $$$

ha i remember you blazing past me at ACS on the roval pretty quickly, so I recognized the car and as soon as I saw you in my rear view, I just thought let him pass, there was no point in "arguing" when you should pass

I ran purple for the first two sessions and it was horrible that i moved up to black. This was the 3rd session where i had to make my way past a few cars before it opening up and having some clean seat time. In the 4th session (gorpro died) and we were pregridded and it was perfect. The guy in front of me was a little faster so I could not catch up, and I was a touch quicker than the guy behind me so he couldn't catch up. It was perfectly smooth sailing.

There was a corvette in the red or green group that just hit a wall and was totaled and he was an experienced driver I was told.

My take on this is, be a little less excited on a just repaved track!

i poopoo laptimes because my laptimes are poopoo!

i use the laptimer so i can see progression and compare my laps to my friends when i hook it up to his car to see where i can do better.

i'll reference laptimes when i'm in the respectable range....for now i can run upper-mid to mid in the black group. although sometimes its really skewed with slow folks.

Cool. I do the same.

I don't know what I was expecting but it doesn't really look like the track got much of a makeover.
