Hi! Congrats - having both cars sounds perfect!! do post up some comparisons!!

I'm contemplating jumping ship to a 2012 GTR - but am very early in my research. I'm hoping you can help me with a quick question regarding GTR ordering...

Do Nissan dealers also take orders for GTRs just like how the M3 ordering process works? I think I'll be ready to buy in a few months and I thought GTR buyers just hunted around for what was on Nissan dealer lots.

Ideally I would love to not hunt around.. and just put down a deposit, place an order and then in a few months get a GTR ..at or below MSRP (not above!)

what was the process like for ordering your GTR? (I dont want to start calling Nissan dealers right now with this question because they'll start pestering with return phone calls) ..

ps - I guess I should post this in NAGTROC but then saw this thread ..

To be honest, I'm not sure if you can order a GTR or not but believe you can. In my situation, I was back and forth between the GTR and M3 for the last several months--even before the earthquake hit Japan. After the earthquake, the supply of GTR's began to dry up quickly. Throughout this period I was reading all of the rave reviews the updated '12 model was/is receiving and talking to local and forum GTR owners. From the info I gathered, I chose the GTR over the M3 but with some difficulty.

Once I decided on getting a GTR, getting a hold of one was an adventure to say the least. It took me almost two months to find the one I'm getting in late August. At first, I wanted a blue premium but the supply of premiums was very low by the time I decided to buy. So, I switched gears and began the hunt for a Black Edition which Nissan was producing almost exclusively for the second half of '11. Because the interior has red seat bolsters, I chose to try for a Red B/E but none were available. If you could find one, they were most likely black, gray, or blue. I called all of my local Nissan Dealers looking for one but no dice. Finally, from several people who had recommended them, I called Boulder Nissan in Colorado. They had a B/E on order but it was white. However, it had not entered production yet. I got very lucky and they were able to change the color to red before it went into production. I immediately put down a deposit and am told it hit the west coast this week. With any luck, I'll have it by the end of August. Like the M3, it has a roughly 1200 mile break in procedure as well. Painful! But when that is done the first thing that I'll do is use that launch control and probably have to change my shorts. As soon as I've had a chance to drive it, I'll post my thoughts. I'm sure it'll be fun as will the M3.

So, to answer your original question, try your local dealers if you like them and they give your a fair price. I have had a very positive experience with Boulder Nissan so far and would not hesitate to recommend them. They are well liked on Nagtroc as well. I paid MSRP because of supply and demand. To this day, there are only 50 or so '12 GTR's available nationwide and most are commanding sticker. Find a dealer with an allocation/order and maybe you can change it to fit your specs. Good luck in your search!

Before I even start explaining this thread, let me say how fortunate/blessed my family and I are to own one of these cars and in life, in general. So here goes.

I've had my eye on an M3 for over a year now. I've researched them on this forum, test drove one at my local dealer, and almost bought one a few months back. At that time I wanted a coupe as this would be my car. But my desire for another car kept me from buying an M3 not to mention my wife's one toy at a time limit. LOL. I agreed to this and instead of ordering an M3, I ordered a '12 Black Edition GTR, which will be here in August.

But I still couldn't get the M3 out of my mind, so I started thinking of ways to breach the subject with my wife about getting an M3 as well. I think some of you may know exactly what I mean. I decide to shelf the idea for a while, but about a month ago my wife gives me the perfect opening to propose my idea. She tells me that while she really likes and appreciates the car she has (an Audi Q5) that she wouldn't mind having a sedan or hatch again. Hmm. Then it clicks! A M3 sedan would fit the bill perfectly--in my mind. Can put the kids in it. Check. Get groceries. Check. Have a spirited drive every now and then--or more. Check. But her idea was more along the lines of a Mazda 3 or perhaps a 335i. And I have to give her kudos for being budget minded and open to other possibilities. She is awesome. More on that later.

So, a week and a half ago, I set up an appointment at the local BMW dealer to drive both a 335i and M3 back to back. After driving both, guess which one she liked? Hard guess right. The M3 it was. She liked the way it handled and the power delivery of the N/A engine better (no offense to 335i owners as I think this is also a great car). Of course, it didn't hurt that the M specialist demoed some of what the car was capable of. We get to the dealer and my CA places zero pressure on us to buy that day. Instead, he says take a day or two and decide what you would like to do. A breath of fresh air in the car buying world. We take his advice and leave. Over the next week, my wife and I weigh the pros and cons of buying the M3. Her primary concern was having a 70K family car in addition to my weekend toy. I tell her what I've said earlier in the post that we are lucky to be able to afford one of these and that it fit in our budget just fine. Of course, I also throw in that it is truly unique and part of a dying breed with that sweet V8. Besides the price, she explains how much she enjoyed driving the car and, if we got one, that she would like to take it to the track and get instruction on how to drive it closer to its potential. That is the other part of awesomeness in her I was referring to earlier.

So guys, we did it. On Sunday we ordered that last allocation my BMW dealer had for an E90 Sedan. We ordered it with the following options: Space Gray, Black Novillo Leather w/Brushed Alum. trim, Cold Weather Pack, Competition Pack, Premium Pack 2, Convenience Pack, DCT, and Enhanced Premium sound. We are excited to say the least and can't wait to get her car and the 1200 mile break in over. The car should be here late Sept./early Oct. Thanks for the wealth of knowledge you've provided about this car.

It was a painstaking decision a few months ago to choose between the GTR and M3. Thanks to my wife and god, I'm lucky enough to have both in the garage in two short (uh, make that long) months. The wait begins...
Congratulations on your purchase and enjoy.

My story is similar, however, I ended up with a His and Her's in my garage. She has her 4 doors and I my 2 doors
