E92 to E93?
Just wondering how many people moved from the e92 M3 to the E93 or the other way around. I'm currently debating if I should get the convertible because I'll probably never track the car and I live in nyc where POS the roads have you dodging potholes all day long. Any input is welcomed

i went from a E93 DCT...
....to a E92 6MT. while i like open air driving, i just didn't care for the looks of an E93.it's not horrible, i just happen to like the look of the coupe better. also i really wanted a manual shift again. there's a lot of great things about DCT, but none of those appealed to me more than shifting myself. if my M3 was my daily driver and/or i was concerned with faster lap times, i would've stuck with the DCT. |

I made the same move from an E93 to E92, but I went from 6 speed to DCT. I actually ended up liking the E92 DCT a lot better. The extra weight was just too much with the E93, and the DCT just suits the engine so well...

I went from a 335i e92 to a m3 e93. The shape of the coupe is a little better, but when you drop the top the air, exhaust note, and everything is fucking intoxicating man. Best feeling ever. Plus people mire more. One of the down sides is the weight and the fact that it makes funny sounds when you hit rough road..

just be warned if you ever complain out of warranty about roof rattles, your shit out of luck and they will try and get you to pay for new roof seals or just tell you there is nothing that can be done.

This is my first convertible and while I think the coupe looks a good bit better, is faster and has less rattles so far I'm in love with the top down experience. But then I've only had it down a few times with the weather in the Mid-Atlantic.
I think it really depends on what you want out of the car; if you plan to track the car or drive it at 9/10ths a lot then the convertible is not what you want. If you want to have a great GT open air experience then I think its a great choice. |

You need to love the verts, I went from 335 vert to M3 vert and even here in Toronto where the weather is shit half of the year I'm loving it. But then again my roof is down every single time when I'm in the car and its not raining during summer, if you wont put it down as much you should consider the weight, as the dynamics do differ a bit.

Nothing beats the Top down experience, both in the "wind and sunshine in your hair" and the "amazing jet fighter sound " that a modified exhaust has when the top is down, it channels the sound. you feel really powerfull driving the car when you get the full exhaust note, unbaffled by the roof and windows.
plus the E93 looks much better with top down then the E92. 2008 E93, 61k miles no roof problems, rattles or any issues at all so far.

Convertibles are over rated! I don't even like how it looks even with the top down. It looks even worse with the top on/covered as it shows the separation line. Plus the extra weight from the convertible isnt good either. E92, hands down!

If you live where you can keep the top down often, and you appreciate the extra visceral exhilaration of open air driving, you'll be more than happy to over look the extra weight and top-up look (although I've grown to honestly love the separation lines!)... Go E93, and never look back!!

I drove the convertible several times, the 450 lbs extra weight is just too much. It's like having 3 more people in the car all the time and the performance suffers significantly to the point where you feel like you arent driving an M3 anymore. If its a V8 convertible is what you want, you can get something cheaper.

If you wanna know how an E93 feels like compared to an E90/E92, then get an E90/E92 and drive it around for a bit by yourself, then go pick up this lady and drive around some more with her in the rear seat

I have a E93. My first preference was 90, but I couldn't find one.
I am very glad that I picked up E93. My wife loves the top down. Best part is , my kid gets really excited when I put the top down and drive the car. |

it depends on what you want. a nice chill ride that is fun with the top down. or a more focused performer ?
i am by no means only care about performance. but for me there comes a point where i cannot justify getting a certain things. the vert is to heavy. i also like the coupe look more. that carbon roof is so exotic |

Looks wise for a M3, you can't beat the coupe. The E92 looks sleek and has the best lines compared to the E90 and E93. But with the top down, the E93 is arguably one of the better looking convertibles around. I would say the ONLY reasons someone wants a vert is for the top down fun. To enjoy the sun, the wind, the unrestricted feeling of connection to the surroundings. You are NEVER going to get the same performance and handling out of a vert as compared to the coupe or sedan. You lose out on weight and chassis rigidity alone. So if you are sure you will never hit the track, then why not go for the vert? Tweak the suspension, slap on a great sounding exhaust and you're good to go. Nothing beats the sound of the V8 and the exhaust when the top and windows are all rolled down. And oh yes, if you want a vert, you have to be prepared for more rattles. |
