iPhone 4 cradles - Part Numbers

A German BMW dealer has listed the part numbers for the new iPhone 4 cradles said to come in December 2010:

Snap-In adaptor (bluetooth only, no 6NF): P/N 84 21 2 199 389
Snap-In adaptor music (6NF music only): P/N 84 21 2 199 390
Snap-In adaptor media (6NF music + video): P/N 84 21 2 199 392

All cradles are expected to be available from December 2010 on. Maybe somebody could check if this information is correct.

Best regards,
south

Hmmm, sounds like...

Snap-In adaptor music (6FL music only): P/N 84 21 2 199 390

...will be the one for 6NF, Smartphone Integration. In other words the one to replace my current 3Gs adapter.

The one that supports video (392), is that perhaps for Europe only? I thought the only video our 3-Series CIC supports (other than hacks) is off the DVD player. Does the new 2011.5 Combox support video?

You're right, it's 6NF and not 6FL. I changed that.

As to video support, it'll be available for cars built after March '11, not sure if it's Europe only.

Best regards,
south

I'm just wondering if infact the video support is required for the forthcoming "ipod out" capability ... hmm ... makes you wonder ....

So regardless of any option, you need smart phone integration.

Hmmm. Still thinking about a 2012 but let me guess: If we get the video capability here it will only function when stopped. Not that I should be watching Top Gear videos while driving anyway.

There are no units in inventory in US or Germany, it's anyone's guess when they will actually be released.

Subscribed!

My car is on order. I didn't order this option because (as stated earlier) it has been viewed as useless for the most part. Especially when it takes BMW so damn long to update it with new adapters and features. I figured they gave up after the iPhone 3G.

I wonder how much it will cost to add the $150 Smartphone Integration option after the fact? I'm sure it will require bending over and biting a piece of rawhide.

I personally can't wait for the adapter. The bluetooth streaming is nice, but the USB iPod connection just has so many more features and is easier to use if you have a decent sized collection.

Plus, the most annoying thing is the long USB cable all bunched up. I can't wait until I can just dock it in nicely, and having that little extra storage free and clear of wires. Probably could solve this with a short iPod cable or being better wrapping of the wire, but if you want to pull the phone out quick to read email or use the camera, the wire is slightly annoying. The dock would make it simple and easier. IMHO

Basic iphone 4 cradle is now out. The "media" and "music" versions, still to be released.

Ah finally, they are making progress in releasing the adapter. Hopefully the others follow along with a release date soon. Thanks for the update.

My system shows a release date of February, but there is a chance that this could change.

What is the difference between the basic, media and music versions? I assume the basic would do the same thing the iPhone 3GS adapter does - telephone and music / audio. Is that correct?

OK, so I assume the idea is that you could play iPhone videos on your screen with the new media adapter. It won't work while you're moving though, right? Does anyone know at this point how much more BMW will be charging for the media version?

The media version should only be about $20 bucks more than the music version.
