Conflict, need advice.

Hello,

Well people always rant and ask for opinions here, so I think it would be an appropriate place to ask for advice. Specially being car related.

I traded a member of this forum here my 18" rims for his 19" wheels.

I gave him (5) 18' rims (no bends/cracks/etc.)

He gave me (4) 19" rims ( 3 of them were cracked on initial inspection, then later found out that those 3 rims were also bent). I spent an extra $250 to fix them.
Also he threw in 3 tires ( (2) which looked brand new on the front, and a garbage tire on the wear that was fully worn out). He told me the front tires were good condition, they looked brand new.

A few days later he buys 4 tires from me, for the rims I sold him. I told him all 4 tires were in good condition, which they were to the best of my knowledge.

The next day we both find out that one of the front tires I sold him had a bubble. And the front tires he gave me both have flat spots.

This causes both of our cars to shake at higher speeds.

I had my tires balanced 3 times, since I initially thought the balance was the issue (spent $60 on the balancing)

He had the tires mounted and cost him $40 for the fronts.

I agreed to buy back the front tires from him for the price I sold them. But he has not agreed to do anything about the front tires that he gave me.

I am not trying to bash on this member on anyway, since he does seem like a nice guy. I only want advice from you guys on what I should do?

SUMMARY

He gave me bad front tires, I gave him bad front tires. I agreed to take back the tires I gave him, but he wont offer a solution to the tires he gave me. What do I do?

sorry if this is all confusing.... I just need some advice, I don't like to cheat people in anyway. So I need a solution to this problem in the most fair way.

Why don't you just ask him if he is willing to give a little back to you, like you did for him?

Re: wheels, did you not see pix of them before making the trade? Or were there pix that showed the wheels to be okay and not match reality?

Note that the bubble was likely caused by a crack formed when your tires were dismounted and/or shipped (if that was the case). They're risks with buying used tires void of wheels. To my knowledge, flat spots are more an issue caused by storage.

If you both have legitimate issues w/ each others wares, either both make concessions to the other or you each deal with your respective issues on your own.

The pictures in which the wheels were displayed were made to look better than reality. On initial inspection the extra cracks that were not reported by the seller were brought to the sellers attention. But the deal continued. Later extra bends in wheels were found and flat spotted tires.

Initially the seller also claimed that the wheels were on his car, and only taken off 2 days before the deal was made. Later he explains how they have been sitting for a few months in his backyard.

The tires that I gave him were in good condition to the best of my knowledge, he could have damaged them on his own.

Would it be morally wrong just to let the situation be, and tell the other party I do not want to deal with the matter. Since we both have an almost equal loss?

I was in a predicament somewhat about wheels with a member on here as well. It was my fault though bc I didn't check them but I assumed the set was staggered... but when I went to mount tires... he had sold me 3 fronts and a rear (Style 95s)... lol. I confronted and he denied all wrong doing.

With your situation though, why don't both of you get a refund on your tires or simply "buy" them back from one another...

If he doesn't want to deal with it anymore and if the loss is almost or equally the same... I prob wouldn't push the matter and let it be. Sounds like you both already have a headache of a situation, why make it any more complicated?

The sitting for months would certainly explain the flat spots on the tires. Don't those usually work themselves out after awhile, though? Still, the seller shouldn't have excluded that the tires weren't in storage for months. Mentioning that doesn't really hurt anything.

How badly cracked were the wheels? Something obvious? If so, I wouldn't deal further with the person. I am normally more considerate for items I've sold, but depending on how bad the cracking was and how out of round the wheels were, it sounds like you may be on the short end of the stick here. The bulge likely isn't your fault unless you shipped the tires and really gave no care in packaging them. Even still, you can't control what happens en route. My experience w/ sidewalls bulging from used tires I've purchased (w/o wheels) has been attributed to either old tires and/or from handling of the tire during dismounting and/or re-mounting. The latter (dismount/mount) isn't really the fault of either seller or buyer but is unfortunate for the buyer. I suppose poor storage conditions (i.e. the compound may have dried out a bit) could also cause them if the seller or buyer had them off a car for a while, too.

Of course, this is all said with the caveat that I can only base my personal judgement on the info presented here.

Why is this in OT forum? Seems like something to post up in the General or Private sale forum
