They did slip around a little, but I solved that with the additional of velcro to match the OEM circles.

Never seen the monster mats - any pics?

Thanks for the reply Will.
I didn't mean to be overly critical, just attempting to express the short coming in my view of the weathertechs after some time in my friends car.

Here are the A4 Monster mats (pic borrowed from WWW):

Here are the GTi equivalents:

Here is a close up indicative of what they actually look like:

Seems to be VAG exclusive however.

Hey those look NICE! Too bad we can't get those for our cars. The Weathertechs will have to suffice, with some minor modifications.

The quality on those Audi/VW mats are nice. They are soft and rubbery, but fits like a glove. I've been using the Weathertech mats for a while now, and they do really well considering how often I take the car snowboarding. The material on the Weathertech is hard and sharp, you might wanna becareful when lifting it out of the car. They do hold better than the monster mats from Audi/VW, I've had my carpet completely soaked with those mats before.

Now that they are sold I can say with confidence, the OEM BMW winter mats stink.

I ordered a set of Weathertech mats for my 2011 as I'm sick of cleaning up salt stains every spring. They arrived last week and look fantastic... thanks for the tip on adding velcro to the back, may do that myself depending on how they work out.

Now just hoping I don't have to put them in until mid/late November.

Additional tip on the Velcro... The effectiveness is going to be only as good as your bond strength between the Velcro patch and the mat - I tried and failed with a glue gun last season. I'll probably try 3M double-sided tape this season - the same stuff I used on my splitters.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking about using a couple of velcro strips that come with double-sided tape attached as a start as I think my wife has some kicking around the house. We'll see how that goes.

Those are generic eBay specials! Had to use some real 3M tape to keep them from moving since they do get bumped by shoes once in a while.

Any updates on how everyone got on with their mats?

Not liking any of the options I did nothing, and will soon see if I can wash the small amount of salt out of my regular mats or just buy replacements.

James

PS: My carpet is salt free.

Hey James! Hope all's well over there. My winter mats came out a few weeks ago already, and I'm still satisfied with the Weathertech mats. The rear mats will remain in there year-round to manage the kids area.

I guess it all depends on how much snow/salt/sludge comes into the car on your boots and shoes in the winter months...

Cheers.

Agreed.
Less snow, and an even keener eye how much snow I'd drag in knowing I had no really salt snow plan.

Usually I would have tracked a lot more snow in to my old Audi.

I park underground at the office, and in a garage at home so was able to minimize the mess. I want a proper solution for next winter, hence awakening this thread.

Glad to hear you liked the weathertechs!

Cheers Will

James

Based on this thread I think I'm going to try the weathertech's as well. I like the idea of keeping them in the rear as well for the kids.

My Weathertechs were amazing, highly recommended. My carpet is in brand new condition underneath, not a single spec of dirt/salt.

I'm in South FL and keep mine in all year round to simplify my cleaning routine. It's amazing all the dirt and sand that I stop from embedding into the carpet even when being super careful.

The added benefit is my M mats looks brand spanky for shows, etc...

Hey chowster I saw you (or your wife/gf) leaving MC the other day. Car looks good.
I got a set of all-weather matts for an e92 (6sp) that are custom with M logos on them. They are mint. PM me if anyone wants them. I am located in the Lower Mainland.

those looking for a weathertech alternative in the GTA area should look at http://www.findway.ca/default.aspx. I bought a set from findway a year ago and the mats fit really well in the car.

the side walls are high enough to collect water/slush/dirt and the mat fits tightly and does not shift about.

FYI, You can get the proper hooks for the weather tech mats from your local dealer. The stock round pads for the velcro simply unscrew and you screw in the new ones in their place

I have ones from dealer and seem fine. The gas surround on those weathertechs have my concerns. I had a similar set for my SUV and had an issue with the mat pressing on gas.
