Does getting your wheels powder coated void an insurance policy on your wheels?
Was discussing my intention to get the ZCP wheels on my 2011 e92 powder coated with a friend and he mentioned that his dealership told him that it damages the integrity of the wheel and they would not honor the wheel insurance policy he worked out with them??
2 points: 1) It was my understanding that getting wheels powder coated has almost zero negative effect on the structural integrity of the wheel itself... and 2) Anybody have any personal knowledge of whether or not this is true? |

whatever...... just get them powdercoated.
"Wheel integrity"? hahaha..... Unless you run straight into a curb or love slamming into pot holes, you will not have to worry about that.

I spoke with south bay bmw yesterday and they said that bmw released a new policy that says you cannot return the car with painted or powdercoated rims. I know that doesn't have to do with the insurance but its still annoying. I think I'll just do it and trade them with someone at the end of my lease

Interesting ^
If you leased the car then do it and just trade with someone at the end of the lease, if you brought it then do it and enjoy the look until it comes to selling! BMW Canada is the same thing as BMWNA which is the same BMW company they have in America so judging by this and what my relations manager told me when I brought my car, the insurance policy covers ANY wheel(s) that are on the car at the present time when a replacement/repair job is required, they could be stock ZCP powdercoated to BBS FI custom rims and they ARE covered under the insurance! |

My m3 is slated to arrive at the port in a week, but I actually just bought a set of nearly brand new ZCP wheels + tires off a forum member... gonna get those powder coated and box up the original wheels + tires... figure its a great selling point to have the original wheels + tires in perfect condition should I decide to sell the car down the line... was just curious about the insurance policy because I heard its a must with the ps2 tires in the tri-state area |

You should not do high temp powder coating on forged wheels. However, I believe the ZCP wheels are cast are they not? There are also lower temp powder coats that can be done.

When in doubt assume they won't help you out. When I had zurich on my other car, they wouldn't repair damage unless a tire could not be mounted on the wheel. ****ing BS.
