Huh?
GT3 isn't just a pretty face.

No it isn't. The ZR1 is faster but not in another league. On a track a GT3 (and my GTR) run with a ZR1.
The ZR1 is very impressive but I was struck by this video pitting the 520 bhp GT2 against the 650bhp Corvette in a straight line. I expected the corvette to destroy the Porsche. http://www.autocar.co.uk/VideosWallp...12&Page=4&CT=V

Those are the results I would have expected but I have more faith in Autocar. Motortrend bites.

I do agree that Motor Trend and other rags have done equally absurd comparisons, and I never believe any of the results that appear in car magazines. All these publications are struggling for survival in the internet/video age. The video promo clips have even less credibility, since all they're trying to do is create a "viral phenom" to score more hits, which sells more advertising. A bizarre result helps on that score.

From a strictly design and aesthetic standpoint, it's almost laughable to call any 911-derivative a "pretty face." However, that homely look has been around so long, people have grown think it is actually pretty. It has become the performance car equivalent of "comfort food."

Huh? I said I was struck by the video because it didn't conform to what I expected. I don't understand how they'd even be close after 60mph.

Yes the GT3 is not the fastest Porsche, that would be the V10 600plus bhp NA engine GT, and it does kick the ZR1s ass by the way. In any event, the issue perhaps with the ZR1 on take off is putting all that power down efficiently no matter who the driver is, on a rolling start I would say the ZR1 would beat the GT2 and almost any other Porsche other than perhaps the GT.

From a dig, the PSC+ sneakers on the Porsche combined with around 400 more pounds on the drive wheels means it can fly off the line in comparison with the Vette and its runflats, plus in the lower gears it gets an advantage after each shift for the same reason. When traction is not an issue (3rd gear roll), the Vette wins. Bruce |

Sure, its the 605bhp 5.7L NA V10, manual transmission, 8,400 rpm red line, 3,047 lbs curb weight, 330kph top speed, Carrera GT (granted its no longer in production since it was a limited production run):

In a straight line yes. Its a great track car too but its not in another league. The point I was making was the GT3 isn't just eye candy. BTW, given that they're similiarly priced which would you buy if you had to choose?

Considering the regular 997.1 GT3 ran a 7:40 around Nurburgring being driven by Walter Rohrl. Although, Walter Rohrl claims modestly 997.2 it will run under 7:35, I have no doubts that the new GT3 RS with 450 HP (35 more HP), 18 ft-lbs more torque, higher redline, 200 lbs lighter weight (2960 lbs) and shorter gearing will run under 7:30, which will be faster than the GT2 997.1 on par or better than the ZR1. |

I'm not here to get in a pissing match over whether a 640bhp car is faster than a 430bhp car. All I'm saying is that on a track (especially a short one) it can run with the Chevy. In a straight line a ZR1 would make an F430, gallardo, DBS, and V10 R8 look slow. The vette is closer to a Pangani than an M3. That said, the GT3 is no slouch. It will be close my GTR in performance (which is saying something).

Which means exactly what? I don't see BMW competing very successfully in any racing venue at the moment, but Corvette has been doing very well at LeMans and in ALMS for more than a decade. Neither Porsche, nor BMW have fielded a GT1 car for more than a decade.
