"Alarming"
For those of you who have the same car as me...have you ever heard your alarm?..I've tried to activate the "panic" button by holding down the boot release on the remote and the only sound heard is the boot opening... although when locked the red light flashes..nevertheless it would be nice to know the alarm actually works...so has anyone activated their alarm?..cheers..

Some countries have the 'panic' function disabled... And most M3's don't have the alarm installed from the factory (and then BMW stopped prewiring the cars for them).
Try locking the car with the windows down, waiting a few minutes and then moving your hands around inside to set off the motion detector (if equipped). PS: your car has dct not smg

Unlike US model cars, all M3 in Australia come stock with alarm, EDC(E92,E93), and a few other options that is option only on US model.

BMW has always sold //3s at least E46 and E92 with a full alarm systems. Given the high risk nature of the car and easily attracting car thieves, having the alarm system lowers the premium. If the car doesn't come with the alarm system most people don't install and then pay a premium in insurance. When insuring the ///3 the insurer don't even bother asking whether it has a full alarm system. The base equipment on the car is released to the insurance industry prior to the release of the car to the market. That's what enable you to get an insurance rating on a car.
