2014 Audi S4 APR Stage 2 vs. 2011 M3 E90
I have a friend bragging about his 2014 Audi S4 with an APR stage 2 tune. I know when I had a 335i with a JB4 and some other mods, they were fun to play with. How about with an E90 M3? I have a few mods, but nothing that is going to gain a lot of power: Dinan intake, exhaust, pulley, and tune. Thoughts? Has anybody raced one?

What's the race? Highway pulls? 1/4 mile?
I used to have an APR stage 2 B8 S4. It was DCT and it was great in the 1/4 mile not so great at higher speeds. Best 1/4 time was 11.7@120mph on race gas and on 93 I would run 12.2@114ish. Granted, I wouldn't say my results are normal, it would be more of a worst case scenario for you... |

There's no race in particular. It's just more of a M3 vs. S4 in general question. I have a 6MT and he's an auto. He taughts the all wheel drive aspect of the car versus my rear wheel drive.

I would think the stage 2 S4 has the edge, if you google, that car should be putting out 370+ AWHP and it has DSG. So the M does not have any advantage, power or transmission wise.

I out launched one the other day. Was proud as my balding PSS are having trouble hooking up in 1st gear right now.

My friend has some sort of program on his S4....nothing major ...stock other than that.
I'm stock with 6MT. At a 30mph roll he had a car on me at 100mph but I was gaining quickly on him.

I raced one with tune and catless at beat one in the 1/4 mile by .1 seconds with dct and launch control. If you do a highway race, 60-140, you should be the clear winner. Anything under those speeds, you better make sure your shifting is on point because that dsg will walk all over your mistakes

Resurrecting this post.. but I'm in a tuned B8 S4 now and I've been contemplating the E90 M3 recently. Having owned 2 E36 M3's, an E39 M5 and an E60 M5.. the bite to get into a bimmer again is rearing its ugly head.
With that said, the B8 S4 is just a good package when tuned. I was curious how these 2 would compare and I believe all the above posts are pretty accurate. Not adding much to this discussion, but I needed to make 1 post in order to upgrade my profile. So here she is. |

I've had both 6 speed b8 apr stage 2+s4 and now a 6 speed e90 m3 with tps pulley intake. The M feels like it was quicker due to the rwd and more power up top on the rpms. It also felt lighter then the S4. Daily driving the S4 was quicker off of the line but gradually lost steam 70mph+. I think with my Current M3 and previous stage 2+ S4 both 6 speed it comes down to the driver. 3rd gear 70mph+ on both vehicles pretty certain E90 wins. A 1/4 or light to to light from 0mph race the S4 will win because of the torque advantage and awd launch. Overall pretty even power wise but the M3 experience is so much better (high end rpms, feels lighter, rwd). Also I get compliments all the time from everybody - all ages. The S4 looks like basically an A4 with a bigger engine.

I test drove a s3 and manual s4. I preferred the s3. The s4 felt to soft. M3 is a better more stable feel as well. But like said already the all wheel drive and torque will help the s4 off the line. Also a dct m3 is much faster than a manual. Manual is more involving though around town. Dct at a drag strip , highway pull, or road course has the advantage.
