I just ordered some lightweight 18" for my car and ordered Nittos (245/40/18 for the front and 305/35/18 for the rear). I'm hoping I won't have any splicing issues with my 3,050lb car.

List updated. My recent set (various 2013 production dates) has one tire that spliced after the second track day of use. Have two track days this coming weekend, will see if it gets worse/better after rotating the spliced tire to a different side.

I have 2 old NT01's you can have (other 3 were spliced). Ran 4 days with'em, so they should be ok for 1 more day.

Ran two days on my NT01s at Thunderhill along with 300 roundtrip highway miles to and from the track...no splicing issues (keeping fingers crossed). Next up is a day at Laguna Seca.

that seems like a long way to drive them too and from to me. i made about a 200 mile round trip once and vowed not to be that lazy anymore as i could tell increased inner tire wear.

Update a couple months later... my 1513 dated NT-01s are getting close to done and no splice for the entire life of them.. This particular batch was good, and i expect that they fixed their QA problem by the time the week 1513 batch were made. Unless something really compelling comes out over the winter (could happen), I'll be getting these once again.

Running at the Ridge next Friday, and that would just about finish my season and these tires.

Coincidentally, my Pagid RS-19s are wearing at exactly the same rate as the tires. I think I found a great combination. 6 track days total on both the tires and pads, with 1 to possibly two days left. That's fantastic for pads for me.

I'm only running -2.8 camber in the front and -2.5 camber in the rear and my car is about 3,050lbs so I'm not too worried about tire wear from driving on the street.

Great thread.

Not to go off topic but at what point track experience wise do you go from Hankook RS-3 to slicks?

I would say B Group, at a minimum. If you're in a C or D group, you should be fine with street tires (speed-wise), and are at a level that you could stand to learn car control on street tires before moving up to R Comps, which tend to give far less feedback at limits.

With the speeds of C and D groups (and some B groups, depending on the club), you won't get a lot of benefit from R Comps.

i hear the lack of feedback thing all the time. maybe thats true for most rcomps but i feel like my nt01s give a good amount of feel and actually seem more in touch with whats going on with them than ad08s. hard to explain but i can walk the tire all the way to the limit like in the carousel and feel where its at. i recently tried to drive my street tire in the dry and guess i overdrove the street tire after not being used to it.

The NT-01 is more like a street tire near the limits than a more pure race tire like a Hoosier A6, BFG R1/R1S, etc. The NT-01 howls pretty loudly as you approach the peak of the tractive force curve and yells once you're over it. It's probably the most benign R-comp tire out there.

I would suggest that drivers moving up in experience go to the BFG Rival. It will wear much longer than the NT-01, is almost as fast if not as fast, and it has a lot of grip still at high slip angles. It's an amazingly impressive tire. I'm using them to autocross in F-stock street tire class, and have had outstanding results.

i have both of the tires you are talking about and generally agree with you. I've tracked both too. Street tires will squeal far more and well before it lets go than R Comps, these two tires included.

My NT01s do howl when approaching the limit, but don't scream at you like the AD-08s do (or any other street tire that I've driven)

Also, I failed to mention that the cars we drive are incredible to make even a schmuck like me look halfway decent on the track. So, the "tire feedback at the limit" statement that I made is almost with a grain of salt, as easy these cars are to control when they start to step out.

Agreed on above. My nt01s actually talk to me quite a bit. That being said I have 2 more tires with tread splice in them. They are 3212 set I got used with 1 day on them. One is driver rear but only happened after it had been on the front first for 3 days. Alwats seems to happen to me at that corner. The other happened first day on the front which I haven't had happen yet. May be stepping up to a yoko slick soon anyways.
