Completely agreed about your second comment. The original shot was excellent as it was. It was shot and PP'd to look quite literal (meaning it ended up looking very similar to the way it was when originally shot- perhaps with some enhanced saturation, clarity and darkened blacks). And that's a good thing. I tend to shoot and finish my shots that exact way. But sometimes with a darker composition, as we have with this shot - muting the blacks can take it from a literal feel to more of an artistic feel. As you said, it's all personal preference.

Yes, used a blend of lowering contrast and lightening up the darks.
