Should be $300/$325 after the $100 off.

Yeah, it'll be $300 without the banquet. Price does include a lunch on Sat & Sun. You won't find any other organization that is going to be cheaper and safer for a newbie.

I can always pretend to be a newbie to get the discounted rate and then magically I'll become faster.

Dude, it would be sweet if you went. We could caravan up there.

I missed it; is this a Saturday and Sunday event, or a Saturday or Sunday event?

I know, I'll be your instructor. You'll drive the first few laps like a noob, then "magically" get it and go as fast as the wind (that's fast at Chuckwalla). All due to exceptional instruction. Work with me here...

Will the A group have instructors as well or just a ride along to determine they are worthy of driving solo?

In class instructors only, and a check-ride at the beginning of the weekend to determine if your head is screwed on straight.

A+ program assumes you know enough of the driving fundamentals and have enough advance technique down that it's main focus is on parsing the finer driving skills that happens in your head.

You'll be fine in A+
Last year, there were only like 10-12 cars out there in A+
And half of them were B students who got moved up because there were too many B's.

Looks like my conflict cleared up and I will be able to attend this event.

From the signup website, it looks like I'll need to buy a Snell helmet for the school. Are there any places local that sell helmets? Would prefer to try before I buy.

Go to Bell Helmets site and see where their dealers are. Most of them will sell a variety of helmets in addition to Bell.

I agree that USC will be fine in A+. An instructor does a quick checkout ride in the right seat for a few laps to ensure you're safe, etc. (this applies to all A+ students, regardless of how many times they've run in the A+ group). After that, you're on your own and you and the other A+ drivers get to have fun, albeit with the watchful eyes of your A+ group instructors out there watching you.

One thing that has bugged me about the A+ group is that I seen it where the students get sloppy as the speeds pick up over the weekend. Apexes get missed, turn ins are too early and full track out isn't utilized. This is where your classroom sessions should come into play. Call each other out on these things, not b/c you are trying to be a prick (I don't need to "try", it comes naturally), but rather b/c you are there to learn and get better. If people take the criticism to heart, they can improve. Check your egos at the door!

For the organizers, I've heard a couple A+ guys say there's a LOT of instructors out in their run group sometime, and they're doing their own "race" with the student feeling like they're stuck in the middle of it. I know the A+ gets training in doing some race maneuvers, but they didn't sound too thirlled about the situation.
