Should be interesting.
Tires should show up fri evening after all of the tire shops close. So I'll have to bust out the crow bars and mount the tire old school. Then I'll wear it like a hat and thrown some weights on to balance it. And then my SES light came on. The M3 is at the dealer. It will be down to the wire!

During the day, I'm interested in chatting with y'all about brake pads. After this event, it will probably be time to replace the originals, which are wearing out prematurely.... due to TOO MUCH FUN!

You need something that can handle really high temps so they don't wear out or glaze. Pagid yellows or PFC08s seem like the way to go on the OE brakes but there are many options. PF01s can make your face bounce off the steering wheel but they don't last. Others like Hawk, carbotech, etc...different folks, different strokes.

i love the pfc01s, but it is aggressive. the pfc08s might be better, it will last longer too.
But you also dont want to run these on the street daily (eat up rotors), depends on how good your dealer is on replacing them too often. So you have to decide on a dedicated track pad or a dual purpose pad (dont forget brake fluid) I'm running the hawk hp+ on the mini. (its noisy for street driving) but works great for the track (with street tires). If i were running R tires, i would have gone with the pfc01. |

I'm guessing that my 4-year warranty doesn't cover brake pads... (I haven't looked at the details, but they did replace my wiper blades last week for free!)
Well, these are the questions I had planned to ask in-person instead of displaying my total newbie-ness on-line. But here goes: I've swapped out the pads on several cars and trucks over the last twenty years, real easy to do myself. Will there be a special $800 tool, or something unusual about simply replacing the OEM pads that I can't handle myself? .

BMW has a specific min interval. Your warranty won't cover the pads if you cook them off before that.

Yeah I was thinking about going up there from inside the loop. If you decide to go, I'd definitely join you.

yeah everything is covered except for tires. My friend in dallas cooked his pads really quick, dealer replaced first set. He cooked the 2nd set quick too and the dealer did not want to replace it. In your case, maybe after this weekend, if the pads are really low take it in and get them replaced. Doubt you have less miles than my friend in dallas did. talking about brakes, time to swap pads on the mini now. |

Lets hope the secondary mass air sensor that my M3 needs makes it tomorrow. Should be good. Chase, my service advisor at BMW of Austin is on it!

Thanks to everyone that registered for this event. Based on the feedback I've received and the number of registered drivers, this will be our biggest turnout yet. I'm really looking forward to the event. For everyone that didn't register in time, feel free to come out and enjoy the environment and meet the group. See you guys in the pits............Phil

And my tires are mounted. Good to go now!
I'm leaving Killeen at 6:30, doing a stop at COTA, and then drive to MSRH. I should be there around 11:30ish.

Thanks to Richard and Phil and others for organizing this event. Richard, Have a safe flight back to "winter".
A few folks did mention to me that it would be really good to have more of these track days (maybe 6 a year). So what's the plan for the rest of the year? Thanks Franklin |

I also want to thank Richard and Phil and of course Tai for making for a fun day. I vote for 6 events per year. Hell, I would do 12 a year seeing as it so close to home versus other options. It's just more tires..........
