Simultaneous Release!!!
This is the news we have all been waiting for here in North America....Simultaneous release of coupe/cabrio and M/DCT transmissions.
Scott26 our reliable source here on the boards has just let loose on some fantastic news......lets get this thread kicked off!! SCOTT26 Private First Class Drives: BMW Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: WORLDWIDE Posts: 54 iTrader: (0) Hello , As I always said from the beginning the reason why you see so many prototypes of the M3 in the USA is because between now and the deadline before production begins at the end of the year. Is that the cars are being made US ready first . The target release date for the M Transmission for Europe is Spring 2008 , The same time the M3 goes on sale in the USA. The time is not coincidental as both options of transmission will be available for launch with the car in it's launch date of Spring 2008. I have been informed that the M3 Cabrio will debut at either Los Angeles or Detroit , it wont be Tokyo as the official media release happens mid-late November. The M3 Cabrio will arrive @ in the US the same time as the Coupe. This is also expected to be the same as the BMW 1er Cabrio arriving in the US alongside the Coupe. Whilst the first phase of filming and photography has been completed in South Africa we move to the next phase of film and photography in the exceptional scenery and fantastic driving roads in the West of Scotland. That will happen this month providing current events in Glasgow do not cause us to reconsider. Then we do the third phase (August) and then begin to piece everything together. The sedan will be filmed in November with scheduled release for late January 2008, The M3 sedan will be shown alongside LCI of the BMW 3er and BMW 3er Touring which will Be officially launched in @ Geneva 2008. The M3 sedan will arrive in Europe early Summer with US sales arriving in the 4th quarter of 2008. The only models left to show off this year apart from updates include : The BMW M3 Cabrio , BMW 1er Cabrio and the BMW X6. 2008 however is all about the 7er. |

+1 Good to hear the E92 and E93 will be out soon, but I'm really looking forward to the E90.

Ha, funny, you're right. I was so focused on the burnout part I lost sight of that inappropriate part of the emoticon. Emoticon designers - get to work, no 4th holiday for you!

This DCT news is great for me. I had been seriously considering purchasing a 2006 M5 w/ SMG if they didn't release the DCT in the M3 very soon after US sales begin. I currently own a 3 series w/ manual transmission but I would like my M3 to have the technology of the DCT.

6sp here since it won't be my DD, but DCT sounds great so I'm really really torn....it may really be a last second decision for me when I spec...ahhh confusing, if BMW would have delayed DCT then it would have been an easy choice...

Various
To those of you who can't decide 6MT v M-DCT: It will be a lot easier after you read a bit about it. Even though we will likely have this simult. launch here in the US I suspect we will be able to read some good reviews/tests/etc. before having to spec our cars.
Price: No chance it'll be a free option. I'd bet more expensive than SMG as well. My bet is $3k even. |
