Honestly, I wouldn't pick an Evo just because I'm more attracted to RWD drivetrains and high revving NA engines, and the M3 fit the bill perfectly for me with its practicality and balanced sports characteristics.

That being said, you really just have to go with your gut about it and not listen to anyone here. If you're leaning back to the Evo, go for it! Auto enthusiasm is about what drives you, not other people.

I traded in the E92 M3 for an Evo X 6 months ago and haven't looked back. During the year that I owned the M3, I longed for my 07 Sti (modded on E85 putting down ~370whp). The M3 quality is great but the Evo is just a much better all around car. What I mean is that it is better at hauling around family and things, better at the auto-x track, better in the winter, and better when it comes to modding. I don't think I would ever but another M3.....it was a disappointment. So many cars that are faster, better handling, and less expensive.

very true, but the M3 is a very, very good compromise of doing it all. Esp. the sedan

Anyways, sounds like you really love the Evo, in that case, you should just pick up another one and sell the M3. You already know the pros and cons, not much insight i can give you.

One thing for sure, I will NEVER go back to an Evo 8/9. I love the M3 too much. It's the perfect car for me.

Here is my very non-technical review on EvoM review of the M3 vs the Evo 8

amazing. My old Evo was sold in 2007 for 26.5 w/ 36k on the odo.

People are asking same price today w/ more miles. I also had an 05, but the 206 IX are really stable value (if you already own it). Not many left that haven't been ripped apart.

I share you same thoughts. My IX was a blast to drive and handled like it was on rails. However, ALL the 5-0 in my city knew me...yup. Got pulled over on a weekly basis for nothing, the big wing was a magnet and got annoying fast.

I miss the evo but not the attention.

I had a Apex Silver Evo 8 too! 05 model. I was on Norcalevo but the admins started deleting posts and banning users so everyone defected and created a new forum site. norcalevo is a ghost town now.

Then the Evo X GSR

Nice! My IX was black and my X was silver...after having 8 black cars I decided it was time to call it quits when it came to the X (well, I had an rsti before the X that was also silver)

this thread is making me really miss the Evo...if I had to get another Evo it would be the IX hands down. so many fun memories with that car. i was at around 320awhp with just under $700 in parts lol. running through the gears on the on-ramp in that car never got old.

What was done to your Evo to make 425 on RRE's dyno? Sorry if you mentioned this before, I must have missed it.

This thread made me visit socalevo.net again after who knows how many years haha

Since we're all being nostalgic about our old evo's, here's my VIII:

As far as missing having an evo, the only things I miss are:
1) boost and having full power by 3500 rpm
2) gas mileage
3) relatively low maintenance/repair costs

Ive had many evos as well and when I sold my last one I told myself i was over it. But after owning a few BMWs I still had that love for the Evo. So I went out and bought one. I use it as my weekend/childhood collector car haha. Seriously, I just mod it and have fun with it. I have a C63 now as a DD. I dont think ill ever let this one go. Id rather it sit in the garage so when I pull up I see it once a day. Ive just always liked them enough to where that makes it worth it to me.

Sorry for rambling haha. I say go out and get one! If you can afford it keep it as your fun car and it'll put a smile on your face everytime you see it.

^lolz

I very much doubt most here and even on the Evo forums would disagree with that.

The Evo was/is a special snowflake from Mitsu.

I own a 2012 Evo X converted to E85 and getting 397 AWHP and 371 Tq. I have always loved BMW's, especially the M3. Loved them since the one with the big flared fenders came out. I have owned a few but never an M3. Between my girlfriend and I we had a 535, 330, 550, new 5 series with the turbo (forgot the model) and a 135. The new M3 is my favorite by far. The exhaust note is amazing. How some run around with a stock exhaust muffling that beautiful sound is crazy. (Not really crazy, I understand some people like stock, or not so loud)

Anyways the point of my post is when I get bored at times I will go to other car forums and search "Evo" just to see what people say about them. That's what I did last night and found this thread. I was pretty amazed at the amount of positive comments and how many had owned an Evo or more. Other sites like Camaro and Mustang mostly blast the Evo.

I guess sometimes we get it in our heads that owners of a certain car are at odds with other car owners. I was so impressed with what was said here and the respect for the Evo even by people that would never own one that I texted my friend with an Evo the link.

I understand it may not matter to you what I think of M3 owners but I just thought I would post this.

Evo is my first Japanese car. Before it I have only owned BMW and Land Rover. I didn't even think the Japanese made real sports cars. Figure they only made cars for people that think getting to work and back is the main purpose of a car. I was shocked. But have since realized that the Evo is very misunderstood car by most. And surprisingly enough from what I read here, many of you get it. It's not about MPG, trunk space, folding rear seat or pretty interior like so many non Evo people complain about. It's just about driving.

It has become sort of a test for me to be able to pick out "car people". When they get the purpose of the Evo, even if they would never want one, they understand cars for their real purpose. Driving.

BTW I'm 44 in November and don't care about the stereotype that it's for kids. The Evo guys I hang with, even if young, are mature and respect cars.

That's my book, sorry if you fell asleep. Just wanted to voice my respect for your respect.

If you live in the Irvine, Aliso Viejo area and you see a white Evo with black wheels, loud exhaust and yes the WING it's me. I'll wave back! (Saw another post here about M3 owners not acknowledging other M3 owners) it's almost mandatory that an Evo driver acknowledges another Evo driver.

well said
