ok I'll try to answer all the new questions. The rental coverage expired at 2 months and so the bodyshop has given me an X3 loaner for the duration. The accident is under the insurance of the person who hit me (actually his parents - damn teenagers) but the problem is we have the same insurance company so I don't have the ability to have my insurance fight his for more coverage; I have to do it myself. The car was not totalled because the original estimate by the insurance adjuster was only about 7k. Last I knew it was up to around 10k but the labor has to have added more to it since then. The manager of the bodyshop will be calling me Friday with an update on my car and I will post all the new information here.

Pining for my E90, but I do like the X3 much more than I thought I would. I'm just not an SUV kind of person; If I was its the one I would get.

When Bimmerista was waiting for his new car after he totalled it on a beaver dam during our Montreal Meet in October, his dealership gave him a string of E90s and X3s for almost 3 months!
Me and findtom were at the xDrive experience this past may, and we got to hammer on some X3s on a skidpad/autocross track....quite the awesome little truck!

I cant believe it is taking this long to repair your car...
I hope everything works out for you in the end, and hopefully a speedy (but properly done) recovery for your car |

Now there's a phrase you don't hear every day!
So, Bimmerista has his new car? Excellent! Dani - you have more patience than I would... hang in there.

That is just crazy, hope your 2007 will be better soon. I am so glad I dont have geico. Sound like it would have been better off calling it totalled based on how much man hours have been spent on fixing the car and the 10g on parts.

I was just thinking the same damn thing -- it's taking longer to repair the car then it took to actually build it!

that is some cheap cheap labor and part prices for a bmw certified shop. if it was in so cal, you would be seeing more than double and it would then be totalled. there is something very fishy here...

i feel your pain...my car was at the repair shop for more than 3 months (see my original story here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14659). it would've taken even longer if i wasn't on top of it. i had to basically call the bodyshop and the insurance company every week to make sure they were talking and my car was being repaired on. at least u have an X3 to drive in the mean time. i had the pleasure to drive a toyota camry rental for 3 months but it only made me love my car more when i got it back. good luck with everything!

I swear. Most teen drivers make me sick. I've heard way too many stories of teenagers driving recklessly and not wearing their seat belts that it really makes me just want to throw up all over them. Were the teens in the other car hurt? I hope they didn't die (if they did I'm sure you would have already said so), but I do hope they got beat up a bit for driving like idiots. I think most teens think that the road, actually maybe the world, belongs to them and they can do whatever the hell they want to do. Ughhh... don't even get me going further...

i really hope your getting your car fixed at a certifed bmw center who is actually trained by the guidelines and expectations of bmwusa. there has to be serious frame damages in that. my car was hit and ran in a parking lot adn there was minor frame damages on my car. the damage looked like it could have not been over 5 mph too..

multiple requests for an update - ok here goes.
The structural work is done. They were worried they were going to have to basically rip it open to fix but they were able to do it in a minimally invasive way. When the car was hit in the rear corner it pushed the rear end forward and inward which caused the alignment of the body to be off by 5 milimeters (sounds small but I think it is huge). The sheet metal work should be done by now (haven't talked to them in a few days) so they have to do the paint work, send it back to the service center to finish what they couldn't do until they straightened out the body, then the trim work. After several additions to the original estimate (which involved the bodyshop calling the insurance and having to wait for the appraiser to come and approve the work each time) my damages were up to over 12.5K. They don't think they should find anything else of significance wrong at this point. I miss my car!!!

Damn. All this because some dipshit can't drive. They need to change the minimum driving age to 20.

Are you going to keep the car or sell it and get a new one? I know I would sell it the chassis will never be the same and I would be worried about the car being weakened structurally.

I'm going to keep an open mind when I get it back but I have already started to look at used ones online; I don't think another brand new one is in my budget plus a used one I could get with a few more options.

so you all are going to love my latest update. I was so upset I started laughing when I got my message from the service center.
My car went to the service center from the bodyshop for the final alignment after the body was all straightened, painted, and put back together. They finished the alignment and then just had to send it back to the bodyshop for the final trim and I'd have my baby back. Well as they backed it out of the service bay, work seemingly finished, the right rear axle (side where it was hit) F@#$ing broke. Yes BROKE. I just want to cry somebody owes me a happy hour...
