same..... and just as odd is this is one of the few dyno runs we've seen where the HP is kept secretive so far. very odd indeed

That said, intake dynos are always dicey, because it's so hard to accurately simulate the conditions of actually driving on the road in a dyno cell. I'd be just as happy (maybe more!) with just a Vbox run. |

Guys and Gals,
As my very first post to this forum let me first say how impressed I am with the community here. Very nice people. I have prowled in the forums for a while and have found alot of very usefull info. I very much appreciate it. Now as far as this Charge pipe and air filter power question from Macht Schnell. Lets look at some evedence on similar systems. So just a similar charge pipe and performance air filter. In the You tube post there is a live dyno run with a AFE filter and a nice charge pipe that made like 10hp. ! Then if you visit the Dinan website they have a simalar charge pipe and air filter and they say 8hp gains Now from what I have read most people on the forum like the air filter offed in this Macht Schnell kit, so is there any reason to believe that this kit wont have simalar gains to the above 2 kits? Am I missing anything? Thanks again |

Maybe I should just pop in my BMC filter when I pick up my M3 next week....and give up this false hope that some aftermarket companies can actually conjure up a decent intake kit that gives power under heat soaking conditions.
It's clever marketing/bundling if you ask me. Take Dinan for example, why stop at just a drop-in filter when you can include a carbon fiber charge pipe...triple or quadruple the original cost...and justifying charging 7~8 times what they would've charged on the filter alone. Like many have speculated, the filter probably provides all the gains...but hey..let's include a larger charge pipe...and increase the profit margin 7~8 folds. |

Come on guys wake up, the only benefit you will see is from the filter. The current stock
intake tube is huge. When I cleaned my stock filter I was throwing away paper cups, leaves, debris etc.. the intake is plenty free flowing. The filter is the only restriction (stock has the charcoal element). |

With the air filter in charge pipe they claim 13hp increase on the first run before heat soak took over I realize you need to take this with a grain of salt, dynos runs can be rather subjective. Heat soak is really why I don't like the AFE setup, The intake charge temps at stop lights would suck. I like good acceleration not retarded timing until things get cold again or back to ambient temps In addition the stock air filter box crams in alot of air in in various ways, im not sure how replacing it would help The filter, well obviously yes. its the most restrictive, i have to wonder why BMW used carbon impregnated media. The charge pipe, i am still on the fence with. I maybe can see at very high RPM's how it may affect air flow a little. But to be worth 5-6 hp, i have my doubts |

I know the AFE gets a bad rap for the E92 M3 and some have reported that the AFE showed a lot of heat soak on their E46 M3 as well. I had a AFE on my 04 M3 and I thought it was one of the most worth while mods I did on the car especially after my full exhaust (headers, cats and no res midpipe along with a Borla. Lee Rutter (Mathews) who ran a 12.74 in a bone stock M3, ran an AFE intake and it wittled him down to a 12.49 not to mention he gained 2mph to almost 109mph, this to me means alot more than any dyno. He thought the AFE intake definitely helped. Also I have seen the AFE intake on a E92 M3, it looked pretty sealed to me. As far as the E92 M3..the OEM intake just looks to be so good I don't know if you are going to improve on it other than a filter change. On the 2010+ M3s they removed the charcoal element so even a filter may not be worth that much anymore.
The fact that it has taken 2 weeks to post up a dyno for the Matt Schnell doesn't bode well I believe and it will probably be labeled DOA.

Sorry guys, we worked with a new dyno facility to test the intake as our regular partners (Fall Line and AMS) were booked. We have been waiting for two weeks for some dyno figures, but have still had no luck.
Here is a graph that shows Macht Schnell's own test results.

Almost 10 hp is fairly healthy I'd say. I would hope that the manufacturer's results are conservative though for a near $500 intake.

I happened to be at the dyno facility when Macht Schnell dyno'd their intake stage 2 kit and witnessed that 10hp gain with my own eyes in insanely hot weather (98F) here in SoCal yesterday.
All I'm saying is that justified the purchase and proved that Macht Schnell produces quality parts that work! Plus it's not overpriced like other aftermarket intakes. Good work Macht Schnell, keep it the good stuffs coming!! |

so on a cost per horse power perspective
$50 per hp is pretty good not takeing torque into consideration for caparison: 5000 exhaust, say a 20 hp gain thats $250 per hp under drive pullies $350 12 hp gain thats $30 per hp $1000 software update 14 hp thats 71 per hp all numbers are ball park of course, off the top of my head i always kinda wanted to look more closly at these numbers if there isnt a thred already on it |
