+1 I love carbon but i agree that this serves no function but to add weight to the wheels.

Carbon fiber is not too strong by itself. Thats why its always overlayed. Once used as an enforcement material carbon fiber Exponentially increases the tensile modulus of the material used. Instead of using 5 inch thick aluminum on something you can use 2.5 and treat it in carbon fiber and it will be half as light and just as strong if not stronger.

Carbon fiber style works when it accentuates something, not when it is entirely made from it.

Dymag wheels knows how to make a good looking carbon fiber wheel.

CF is here to stay my friend, until a better technology shows up. The newest airplanes, best race cars, etc... employ it everywhere they can. It's expensive to manufacture the cost will probably always be expensive, but its advantages over most other materials being used is amazing.

He's referring to the carbon fiber look (the carbon fiber weave), not the strength and weight benefits it brings. Of course no one wants to get rid those benefits.

I would agree if it was simply an overlay, but what camaroross was saying is that they use the carbon as a structural element, allowing them to use less metal on the wheel. I think that 18 pounds is great for a 19" wheel.

Gotcha. I totally agree though. If you look at the reason in my post for the edit, I stated overlays are dumb. It doesn't matter how light it is, if its lighter without it. It is interesting though, if it is a structural piece, and allows them to use less aluminum, and strengthen/lighten the wheel at the same time. I'd love to hear their description.
