VF 540 E90 M3 vs e46 M3

Guys,

So I was on way home last night from SC to Boston and next to me on the highway was an E46 m3.. From the looks of the exhaust there was nothing indicating it was modified performance HP wise.

Now mine is a VF540 E90 6spd with all the bolt ons and a 4.10 diff. Had my 19in wheels on so no 20s effecting the driving.

I was minding my own business in the far right lane going the speed limit and he would not stop tailgating me. Traffic was very light on the highway and had about 1000 yards of no cars around So I drop it into 3rd at 65mph which would put me around 6k+RPM where the blower gets going quickly and off I go.

This damn little gangsta wannabe with dealer plates in the car and his hat sideways sitting low rider in the car and not looking a day over 18, was staying on me. Granted a few cars, but I was expecting that car to look like it was sitting still as I drove away. Granted I only did one shift and never went into 4th as that is way too much speed for what it was worth.

Either this car had a blower itself or my engine stopped working. And yes I know how to drive stick.

Could a stock e46 be that fast???! No way it was turbo as it would have been long gone

Te 540 kit agains a fbo e46 is a close match. The e46 is 500 less in curb weight.

It might have been supercharged. My old sc m3 was fast from 0-100.

And quit being such a pompous ass. So what if the kid had a certain hat on?

someone could unfairly call you a wannabe gangster for having 20 inch wheels on a performance car for no reason too, but to each their own.

His biggest advantage was his draft, that's what might've surprised you in your quick, i'd guess, 40mph pull. You need more time to put more distance on him

To put it in perspective my car has an E46 M3 motor and is about 3200lbs and is geared. From a 65-130 MPH roll I am dead even with a intake/tune E90 M3 6 speed that runs 12.5@111 mph (with me driving) but when he takes off (with the jump) and I chase from 1 cl back I am at his back bumper ready to push him out of the way by 100mph

It's to hard for me to tell what was done from such a short pull. However, i'd say a header/tune (300rwhp) E46 M3 wouldn't get pulled by more than 1cl from 65-100 with the draft, even if your car was making 470rwhp

you honestly sound butthurt. lmao, grow up and realize that just because a car "doesn't indicate" it's highly modded doesn't mean it isn't.

I hope you run into a sleeper looking HPF M3. I could only imagine....

Easy guys I am 32 and still act like I'm 24 sometimes. I would love to see a HPF E46. Those cars are incredible. In fact I couldn't believe I did not into one tuned vehicle in 2000 miles of driving. Quiet sad to be honest and it was nice to finally see another M on the road.

I was just shocked that considering the sound of the E46 that there didn't appear to be any performance mods and thought my car would pull a little harder. Granted it had been tuning for 16 hours straight so maybe some power was lost.

I have a friend wanting to buy an e46 so this is good reference for him to know that buying this car does have a close performance advantage. I love E46s I just have never driven one or matched up to one so I have no reference to how capable these cars are in the road.

I anything I was really impressed but he would not slow down for me to ask him

Not!

A FBO e46 does'nt even make 400hp and is only 150-200lbs lighter, a stock E9X would be close to that, not a VF540!

Maybe it was supercharged. If it was an HPF m3, it wouldn't have been behind you. Unless it had terrible traction.

I used t have a e46 tuned. Dinan complete exhaust and Dinan tune. Thing was a monster. When I first pick up my e 92 I was quite disappointed with the its performance in comparison to my e46.

Were you disapointed by the feel of the car or the numbers you were achieving!? A modified car always feel more raw even if it's slower then an other! Kind of like when I bought my 09 STI, it felt so lazy and slow compared to my friends 2002 WRX with a stg2 even if my STI was a bit faster!

Sounds like something is wrong with your E92.

He was probably supercharged just like you. And he was probably just as surprised at the result as you, because he usually pulls away from E92M3.

Yes. My e92 was a special 4 cylinder model that was custom ordered
