Entering an Address vs Voice Commands
Hi folks,
I just updated my 09 M3 nav software to 2013 and was hoping that the voice commands would have updated too. On my '11 1M, if I say "Enter Address", I can then speak the entire mailing address IE: "123 Elm St, City, State" and it processes the entire thing. On my '09 M3, even with updated nav, if I say "Enter Address", it expects me to break it up. IE: I have to say "City" and then speak the city. Then say "Street", etc.. I can't just speak the entire mailing address. What would I need to upgrade to get this functionality? Is this something I gain if I upgrade to the latest Combox? Hope this isn't a frequently asked question.. Couldn't think of what topic to search for! |

I don't know about 2010's either, as my freshly updated 2010 still asks for city, then has options to say the street or accept, then house number or accept. It doesn't allow it to be spoken all at once. So, I think it was introed kn 2011.

Is there some hardware update I can perform to get Nuance Voice recognition? (I don't mean at the dealer, I mean something I can buy from nav retrofit companies)
Thanks for the reply folks. You've given me a name to search for... and it sounds like it's 2011+! Thanks. Edit: Apparently the latest Combox has this functionality. Features of the Combox Media retrofit: - Album art covers (over USB port in the armrest) - Bluetooth Audio - Office menu (for iPhone only Contacts are currently available, other phones can have text messages, Calendar, Tasks, Emails, etc.) - Navigation map Satellite View - New version of the Voice Control powered by Nuance including One-Shot Destination Entry feature - Internet and BMW Live* (Optional. Please check the available options) Last edited by -cj-; 12-17-2012 at 08:05 AM.. |

Nuance was announced to be introduced in the MY2010 CIC. If that did not happen then that's a BMW thing...

As stated above, you will need a new CIC post-MY2010, for sure MY2011.5+.
The CIC has its own Voice Control built-in and activated via FSC. So I do not think that retrofitting the Combox to your 2009 CIC will give you the Nuance voice control for the Navigation as it is a Telephone module. At least not for free. Quote:

Thanks for the feedback. How am I getting this now, on my 2011 model? I do know what you're saying, the processing happens on the server, much like Siri (Which uses the same voice engine). But how do I pay for this now on my 2011? I'm thinking of letting my BMW Assist expire, does this mean my voice control disappears? (Or does it revert back to what I have now with my 2009 model?)
